Title: TAMBLING family - Looe, Liskeard Brick Wall!
Post by: AllStar on Thursday 28 January 10 19:25 GMT (UK)
Hi I was wondering if anyone on here has links to the Tambling/Tamblyn/Tamlin family?
I am mostly concerned with an Alfred John Tambling born abt 1883/4, but I cannot find any birth record for him. His mother (I think) was a Ann/a Maria Tambling Mar qtr 1862, died Dec qtr 1897.
He is on the cenus with her and her parents, his grandparents in 1891 as an 8 yr old in East Looe, and just his grandparents (after Ann's death) in the same place in the 1901 cenus, aged 18.
I have no idea who his father is, and even have surpisions that one of Ann's brother's Alfred, might in fact be his father, instead of Ann being his mother, as Alfred died aged 20 the year after/of Alfred the second's birth, so would (obv) not be around.
I have his grandparents as John and Jane, but no idea of Jane's maiden name. I know they married between (I think) 1841, and when thier 1st son was born in 1844, but have no clear leads.
Can somebody please help with all this?

Hi
 Have been looking at you family tried to track them back through census I know you are trying to find you Alfred, sometimes you find thing by looking at the family.
Its hard when the family name keeps getting spelled different ways

Ok
1891 census RG12 1812/98/13
Head of house
John Tamblin b 1825 Duloe gen lab
jane b 1825 b east looe
ann daughter  b1863 east looe
alfred  son  b1883 b east looe
 I don't see a birth  for alfred
I have tracked the family back to 1851 there are a good few other children
1881 RG11 2287 110/21
1871 cannot see them (except son Edward  RG10 2141 /87/40)
1861 Rg09 1531/162/15
1851 H0107 1902/283/19
 I dont see amarriage for John To Jane they had their first son John in 1844 so they must have married some time before that?
 maybe some one else can see your Alfred.
good luck
cheers cardiff ;) ???

Alfred (1883) baptism does not appear in the East/West Looe register.

Can I just ask how you know that Alfred was Alfred John ?

Hi

I wonder if you could find a marriage for Alfred. Perhaps it may hold some clue as to his parentage;

possibles;

 Alfred Tambling to either Bessie Pengelly or Emma Jane Toms
dec q 1902
Liskeard
vol 5c pg 98

Alfred Tamblin to either Mabel Honey or Mary Jane Worden
dec q 1907
Liskeard
Vol 5c pg 121

oops I have just seen this;
Fizzybubble - thanks for looking, I know he is called Alfred John because it is on his marriage index.

So do you have his Marriage cert? I can't find a marriage of an Alfred John .... :-\

will keep looking

deb

Hi

Looking at the 1911 index

there is this family living in Liskeard
Alfred Tambling b 1883 ... he still does not include a middle name of John
Emma Jane b 1882
Alfred John b 1905
Lily May b 1907
William Ernest b 1906

There some other children born in the Liskeard reg. district who have MMN as TOMS.  :)

Oops look like I might be wrong since the 1902 marriage to Emma is defintely him, but it doesn't have a middle name on. I think that might just be what I have been told. I have that index already, but not a marriage certifate for it. I must try and get it, but i'm trying to find his birth without it, because of money.

Hi Allstar

I have also been looking for John Tambling's marriage to Jane... with no luck.

I see John in 1841 with his parents and sister.

Janes birth place varies:

1881 = Looe
1871 = Pelynt
1861 and 1851 = Talland

i have been searching 1841 for Janes from those areas and trying to find their marriages ...no luck yet!

I think that in order for you to research jane's family you may also need to invest in a birth cert of one of their children.  :-\

Hi Allstar

Yes, the birth cert should state her maiden name.
At least then, you can follow her family .... :)

Keep us updated!

well, it looks like Robert Wright & Ann Maria Tamblin had been intending to marry. The banns for the marriage were read 3,10,17 Sep 1882 but noted in the Banns Register that they did not marry.

http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=banns&id=96586

Robert will have needed to be present at the registration for his name to be on the certificate at that time.

The 1881 census has a Robert Wright aged 24 AB seaman born Plymouth on board the vessel "Ann Walters" in the Bristol Channel, but her home port was Looe Port of Fowey RG11/2248 folio 123, but I can't see him on the census after that.

Are you the same person as the original poster? If not, welcome to Rootschat!
