hi there,
My great grandmother, Violet Davies had an illegitemate daughter in 1910.
Quatt baptism entry lists the father as Leonard John Winwood, labourer.
Ring any bells with anyone, Violet was a domestic servant in Bridgnorth, family tales say that Leonard came from either Coton or Bridgnorth
any help much appreciated

Hi Margaret,
If you refer to page 93 of my new book that you purchased, you will see;
"28 Dec 1918. Killed in action. Private Leonard J Winwood, husband of Mrs L J Winwood of Farmcote. Youngest son of the Late William Winwood and Mrs Susan Winwood of St James Lodge, Bridgnorth."
Could he be your man?

dear gwynne,
that's marvellous, have now
confirmed with a family member and it seems to jog a few memories- "granny always said he was killed in the war"
Is he on the Bridgnorth memorial i wonder ?
many thanks !
-
Hi Margaret,
Yes.
L J Winwood is listed on the bottom line of the plaque on the Western side of the war memorial in Bridgnorth town park.
His father was buried in Bridgnorth cemetery, age 48, on 13 July 1896 and his mother Susan was buried, age 75, on 14 March 1923.
Regards,
Gwynne

Strange tho' that there is no CWGC entry for that man.

Date of the newspaper !
I am now wondering whether a further article was possibly written concerning the train accident ?
-
One could be forgiven for not linking that sentence to a newspaper article :P
it reads as if it was the date he was killed in action, extracted from a Page 93 of the book.
Anyway, I provided the census information, so hopefully that complemented what you have.

Hello, I don't know if this is relevant but my paternal grandmother was Ada Taylor from Farmcote near claverley and her first husband was Leonard J Winwood. They married in Kidderminster in 1911 and had 3 children before he died in a train crash between 1914 and 1918. Any further information on any of this would be very much appreciated. My grandmother (Ada Taylor) returned to Bridgnorth and went on to marry Benjamin Fearnall, my Grandfather.

Hi, Your Grandmother Ada Taylor was my Gt Gt Grandmother's 2nd daughter; Ada had two sister's, an older sister Fanny and a younger sister Edith. There were a lot of brothers, Harry, George, Thomas, John and Robert. There was a grandchild living with Ada's mother in Claverley, Helen Mary Taylor, she was born around 1910, would you know anything about her?
The three Fearnall children who were split up, would their names be George Edgar, Gerald & Mary? :)
-
Hi,
I was very excited to receive your message. My father was George Edgar he was one of four children born to Ada Taylor and Benjamin Fearnall. His brothers and sisters were Edith Mary, Elsie May and Gerald John, they also had half brothers and sisters because Ada was married twice. Ada died quite early 1n 1933. I had found out that Ada had lots of brothers and sisters; Fanny, I believe married James Jelfs in 1898 and had children, Edith so my aunt told me, went to live in Canada along with Thomas Taylor. Thomas, so I was told had a daughter Mollie who was brought up by Ellen Taylor (her Grandma). At first I thought this was Helen Mary however she was born in Bolton and I am unsure who her parents were? (I was going to send off for her birth certificate to find out). I have looked at a few passenger lists that left England for Canada but have been unsuccessful. I have traced Ada's brothers Thomas and John up to the first World War but that's as far as I have got. Can I ask, are you related to Fanny or Edith or one of Ada's brothers? have you got any further information? I would be very grateful if you could let me know :)
best wishes

Hi Jayne, my Grandmother was known as Molly, her name was Helen Mary Taylor.
Warmest regards Suzie

Hi all,
Leonard John WINWOOD apparently is listed on Claverley War Memorial.
Today I was talking to a member of Claverley Memories Local History Society. They are gathering information about all the people mentioned on the War Memorial.
They would appreciate a photograph of Leonard WINWOOD if available please?
Please private message me if you can assist.
