My cousin and I are trying to find information on our ancestors the Spence's who emigrated to NJ in 1888, 1905 and 1908. We have them in the Ellis Island records but wondered if there is any way of tracking their deaths etc., please?
The names we have in the 1900, 1905, 1910, 1920 and 1930 census are - but their ages either don't change or don't age enough!
John Spence - emigrated 1888, 32 in 1900,42 in 1910, 52 in 1920 and 52 in 1930?
He was naturalised in 1896 - are there records for Naturalisation?
Mary (Nee ??) emigrated 1891/3,
They married in NJ in 1895 - is there any way of finding this marriage record?
children (are a bit hit and miss but are):
John A - b.c. 1896 - 4 in 1900 but nothing on him after that - did he die?
Maggie (Margaret) b.c. 1898 - age 1 in 1900, age 11 in 1910, age 21 in 1920
and then another family with the same sort of info. in 1930 gives a Margaret as age 16?
Alexander Spence - 7 in 1910
Lillian - age 17 in 1920 - where was she in 1910?
Can't seem to fit anymore information on so will say thank you tfor any help.

Posting the 1920 and 1930 census relating to the Spence family, 1900 is already above. It does seem like the same family but for people appearing/disappearing and the ages. Anyone got any idea's or thoughts. Two brothers of John also arrived in the USA between 1900 - 1910. Alexander born 18/12/1869 and Thomas born 9/4/1866. So could the children with John and Mary really belong to either of the brothers - !!
1920 Hoboken Ward 1, Hudson, New Jersey. On Anc..try this record also has the name John France against him !!! The immigration year is different on this one

Margaret Spence 21 Stenographer.

Harold Spence 8 1/2 years old Illinois

I know you possibly have this information but will post so that others get the picture and may be able to help.
We have Alexander Spence Age 34 years (Farmer) and Minnie age 32 years (sister) on the on the SS Furnessia. Londonderry to New York 23 May 1905. Goint to 261 Frish Street. Holboken. New Jersey
We also have Alexander 14 Aug 1906 on the SS Furnessia Age 34 Labourer. Returning home to brother at 261 Frish Street. Holboken. New Jersey.

The elusive 1910 census for John Spence and Family - Hoboken Ward 1, Hudson, New Jersey. Which shows no John - it says Mary had 5 children and 2 survive.
John Ignacio 42 Brakeman - Railroad.
Mary Ignacio 37 Had 5 children and 2 surivive
Thomas Ignacio 11 is described as a daughte and reads Margaret on the scan
Alexander Ignacio 7
Alexander Ignacio 34 Boarder. Immigration 1905. Warehouse - Railroad.

We had found this, but we can't understand where the Ignacio surname came from?
On another census, Spence is down as something else too.
Would you have any ideas?

Just the way the transcriber interpreted the spelling on the scan unfortunately - was quite difficult to read if you did'nt know what you were looking for.

Ah, that's the reason, I was wondering if it was his wife's maiden name :-\ I had a look at a passenger site for her under that name but nothing came up.
