Hi Andy.

I did know of a Cheney family, a friend of ours died in December
of Cancer with such surname.

In the Northamptonshire Record Office there are 2 books
that list all the Cheyney families in the County.

It was done by our friend's father and is most informative.

I am afraid that we can not help with living relatives on Rootschat,
unless one pops along here.

All the best in your quest.

Sandy

I'm sorry to hear of your loss!

It maybe that we were related but distant relatives as my last relative I know of that lived in Northamptonshire was my 4th great grandfather Jonas Cheney in the 1800's. I still believe and hope members of the family are living in Northamptonshire. Though I know branches of the Cheney's live in Hartlepool, Co.Durham and some may still be living in St Helier, Jersey.

Are all your Cheneys in Northants? I'm researching Cheney inlaws who most recently lived in Berks and Kent. My interest is in Jonathan Cheney born c 1828 in Berks, but he came from a big family and had at least six children himself, some of whom may well have spread northwards - because it's not my direct family I haven't followed the sibling lines.

hey lesleyhannah

it may be that they are relastives as i have discovered relatives from the cheney side of my family have also moved all over the country.

You wouldn't happen to know who Jonathan's father or mother was at all?

Jonathan is a real mystery - he just disappears. I can't find his death - and although his wife remarries, I suspect it may be bigamously. I believe Jonathan's parents were James Cheney, an ag lab,  born 1801 in Earley, Berks, and Hannah born 1811 in Shinfield Berks. I believe Jonathan was one of seven children.: Sarah, Thomas, Lydia, Jonathan, Mary Ann, Emma and Emily. Do these names crop up at all in your family?

I haven't followed the siblings - though now you've reminded me of this branch I might give it a try. However, this is a few generations apart from your Jonas. What would help would be if we could find Jonas had a James amongst his descendants!

Im a Cheney decendant in Australia.  i from the Irthlingborough woodford, great gidding. sawtry line.

We have managed to get a  lot of it together, although learning some of it is mixed up as to many Williams and Elizabeths.

Presently the brick wall is Thomas Cheney and Ann Thomas of Irthlingborough. they married abt 1715.

Interested in all decendants.

Hi again.

As Alan and Marilyn had transcribed most of Northamptonshire
they would know if it had been in another village.

I just wish I still had the books I mentioned then I could look up the
family at a turn of a page.  :(

If there is anything else we can help with just ask.

Another relative has had a email from Alan already and hes stated that Thomas and Ann have not married in irthlingborough and that any marriage is probably not correct. the details have now disapeared of LDS site, so possibly folk were just asuming a marriage when there were baptisms there.
She is now going to search abt Woodforde. and she told Alan that. so hes not owned up to knowing them in his research.
Thanks for your help. when we find a area i might be back!
well im sure i will be!
great site, been a member for years, but never knew about this section till i read a Family tree mag from england!!!!

Hi again to you all Cheney folk.  :)

I searched for the information about the Cheneys I knew I had last night
as I remember meeting someone also in 2002 in the Northants Record Office.

He did not give me his name but his information is much further forward
1855 with folk passing away as late 1980's (I think).

I have transcribed Little Harrowden Parish Records and have a lot
of information on Finedon, Irthlingborough where there was also Cheneys.

Also there were some of the family in Kislingbury.

I have some gravestones of Cheneys in the Wellingborough Cemetery
and others places.

I can not go into sorting it all out at the moment but will gladly help where
I can if any help.

Hi,
I have been trying to find out about Thomas Cheney (born 1690) and his wife but it seems from this thread as if they were not married in Irthlingborough or indeed anywhere n the county. Interesting!!

My mothers family were Clark from Northampton but the Clark family originated in Stanwick, several of my descendants were named Cheney Clark so figured there must have been a Cheney come in somewhere along the line, my 6th Gt Grandfather 1669 - 1737 was Cheney Clark so a Cheney must have married in before  that.

If anyone could help with this I would be eternally grateful, as yet I can't find a Cheney marrying into the Clarks in that area.

The problem is that so many registers were missing or incomplete in the 1600's

I'm 10 years late here. Jonah Cheney 1686 is my 8th Great Grandfather and I can trace his tree quite well. I'm also from Northamptonshire.
