Title: Death for Martha Morgans?
Post by: ClaireG77 on Wednesday 17 March 10 22:58 GMT (UK)
Trying to find a death record/date for Martha Morgans (nee Goodwin) b1841.  She had a daughter Ann in 1866 and her husband Thomas was down as a widower in the 1881(?) census.

Can anyone shine any light?

Many thanks

Sorry - scrub that - I think she died mid 1870.  Can anyone help with Thomas' death though?  Last known in Tregaron but not sure how to find anymore detail to narrow it down!

Or if anyone can look Martha up in the 1871 I would be most grateful - I thought I'd found her death mid-1870 but I've got a note she was in Llanbister in 1871 census!  ::)

Dear ClaireW77

The 1871 Census for Martha Morgans is as follows: (Spellings are as seen)

Bedugre (farm is shown as Bethugre in 1881), Llandewy Ystradenny, Sub District: Llanbister, Radnorshire

1871
Thomas MORGANS, Head, Married, 40, Farmer of born Disserth, Rads
Martha MORGANS, Wife, Married, 30, born Llandewy, Rads
Thomas MORGANS, son, age 10, born Llandewy, Rads
Ann MORGANS, daughter, age 6, born, Llandewy, Rads
Emma Lueza GOODWIN, step daughter, age 5, born Llandewy, Rads
Mary MORGANS, daughter, age 4, born, Llandewy, Rads
Margaret Alice MORGANS, daughter, age1,  born, Llandewy, Rads
William EDWARDS, Ann GRIFFITHS & William GRIFFITHS all shown as servants

Death
Martha MORGAN, Age 30, June Qtr 1871, Vol 11b  Page 126, District of Knighton, Radnorshire
(also shown on the same page was a Joseph MORGAN and Matilda MORGANS both 0 years) It is possible that Martha may have died in childbirth and that one of these babies (or both if twins) were hers - but there's no guarantee of this - you would have to order their death certs to check - details are the same as for Martha's death)

Marriage of Thomas MORGANS & Martha GOODWIN, Dec Quarter 1868, Knighton District, Vol 11b Page 332

Birth of Emma Louisa GOODWIN, June Quarter 1865, Vol 11b Page 332

It seems that Thomas MORGANS born 1831 married at least 3 times and he was still alive aged 80 in Radnorshire.
His first wife was a Sarah Nichols (or Nicholls) married Jun Qtr 1858;
2nd wife was Martha GOODWIN married Dec Qtr 1868;
3rd wife Sarah JONES married June Qtr 1886.

What makes you think he was in Tregaron, Cardiganshire?  There was two Thomas Morgan/s of similar age but they were shown as being born in Cardiganshire.

Death
There is a death of a Thomas MORGAN shown as born about 1832
died March Qtr 1914 in the Knighton District Vol 11b Page 186

Hope this is of some help (and very sorry if I've given you too much info).

Regards, Alltcafan  :)

Wow that's amazing, thank you so much.

I think I thought Tregaron as when I was looking for him on FreeBMD it seemed to fit, then I found other links to Tregaron too.

Will analyse all that tomorrow I think - too tired now but wanted to thank you v much.

Am confused about Emma Lueza (Emily Louise as I have in my records and is the direct link) being a 'step-daughter' as children before & after her are 'full' children  ???

Ah it's ok - the eldest two are Martha's sept children from Thomas' first marriage.  I'm just falling in!

What great info - I never would have worked all that out myself - many many thanks.

Well Robert very, very kindly shared Martha's death cert with me.  No mention of the children - she died of cold/phthisis (TB/wasting away) in 1871.

Okies, so the next thing is Thomas' death cert!  :)
