Title: Cutty Sark

Hi:  The Cutty Sark was built in Dumbarton in 1869.  I have reason to believe my relative William Henderson born in 1821 was the boatswain on one of her voyages.  If anyone can help to verify this it would be much appreciated.

Have you located the Cutty Sark in the 1871 census? It may not have been in port in the uk but if it was the census entry might list your relative.

The Maritme Museum log book for 1870 lists a Henry Henderson, carpenter, of very good character.

Hi Neil,
I don't know if this will help you, but there is an old link (2003) on Rootsweb of someone offering to do lookups from the book
"The Crews of the Cutty Sark" which lists the crew from 1870 - 1895.  Worth a shot?

I don't know if it's still active.
Also, one of our Rootschatters posted a similar offer in 2004 in Census & Resource topic, although I notice her last posting was
in 2008, so I don't know if that offer is still active.

Is anyone able to let me know if Frederick William Marshall (1852-1930) was on the crew list of the Cutty Sark. I have inherited a framed picture of the ship from my mother, who was very interested in family history. In her research notes she said that Frederick (Fred?) went to sea as a boy in 1861 and I know from her notes that he later  he ‘sailed the China Coast’.
He ended up in Australia later on.
