Help please - I live in Australia and have tried to find any record of Agnes Adams family. She was born in Stanton 30 Dec 1855, lived in Shepherds Bush and married my grandfather George W Elliott in Shepherds Bush 12 October 1878. They moved to Bedfield sometime between 1881 and 1885 (daughter Adelaide born in Bedfield in 1885) and lived at Home Farm Bedfield, opposite the Dog Inn. I cannot trace the Adams family = does anyone have records of them? My father was Percy Elliott, born Bedfield 1899. Thanks

Hi Annette
Thank you for this useful informaton I have just come across. George's father Robert is my great x4 grandfather. If possible, please are you able to look up Robert and wife Mary in the 1841 census as I think I have the wrong information. Robert was born ~1767 and Mary ~1766, but I do not know where either were born. Mary may also have still been alive in the 1851 census, but I have been unable to find her.
Thank you in anticipation.

In 1841 - Stanton St John, Suffolk (ref.HO107 - 1014 -7 - 22 - 3)
Transcribed as ADAME on Ancestry
Robert Adams 70 Ind. b. Suffolk
Mary Adams 60 ditto
Sophia Adams 20 ditto
Thomas Adams 20 ditto
John Adams 5 mos. ditto
(Remember ages rounded down in 1841).
Robert Adams bc.1767 bur.22/12/1844 Stanton
Mary Adams bc.1776 bur.9/12/1858 Stanton
Mary is still alive in 1851 - still in Stanton - ref. HO107 - 1791 - 554 - 19 - shown as an Annuitant and with the same people (except for Robert) although dau. Sophia has been married and widowed between 41-51. Mary's birthplace is shown as Barningham, Suffolk
I note that when she and Robert married her name is shown as Stimpson. However, have found the following on familysearch which i suspect is her:
Mary Simson bp.3/10/1779 Barningham, dau. of Robert and Caroline (think this could be a mistranscribed name as there were definitely Stimpson's in Barningham).
Surely this must be Robert Adams birth:
Robert bp.22/11/1767 Barnham, son of Thomas and Sarah Adams
Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the information Annette. Yes it was all very useful.
I don't think the Hammond side of the family in Ixworth will be easy as there were at least 2 John & Hannah Hammonds, John the carpenter, John the labourer and possibly another John the servant. I shall do my best!

Here is some additional information:
George was from Earl Soham a son of William (born Bedfield 1823) & Mary Anne Elliott (nee Chapman) born Monk Soham 1822
George 1856-1920
Agnes born 1856 -1942
You should be aware that Earl Soham, Monk Soham & Bedfield are adjacent villages, just a few fields from each other. Adams were to be found living in Bedfield in the 18th century too.
1904 Directory states that George Elliott was blacksmith, carpenter & farmer.
Home Farm exists in one form or the other to this day.

I notice you refer to Shepherd's Bush, which is in London. Part of Stanton, Suffolk is called Shepherd's Grove.
