Hi
Can anyone help me?
I have just got the birth certificate for my x2 great grandfather (william jackson)and is shows his parents were from scotland. As no one else so far in my research has been from scotland I have no idea where to begin, can anyone suggest some good scottish websites or offer help in anyway.
( the information on the certificate is below)
His parents were William JACKSON born abt 1859 scotland and Jane LITHGOW born abt 1862 scotland they were married on 15th august 1882 in scotland
under previous issue on the cert it says 1 female living,1 male and 1 female deceased.I understand this to mean his siblings.William and his sister jane were born in lambton new south wales but I didn't know about the others so I'm not sure if they were born in scotland or australia.
Any help is greatly appreicated :) :)

Hi tracn4
Scotlands People is the official site for certs in Scotland (30 credits= £6) to view search results it costs 1 credit and to view the actual cert 5 credits, there are tips on optimizing your searches so that you get more for your credits, if you search on here you will find it
doing a general search William and Jane were married
in Cambuslang Lanark in 1882 if they were born in Scotland their birth certs would be on there too
as would all the census results
although someone may find the transcript of the census for you this would let you know you have the
right family
the 1882 marriage would give you their parents names

David Lithgow and Elizabeth Fleming
there are quite a few children for this couple on IGI (done a parent check using those names)
and by luck there is a set of twins born 1855 first year of registration
their birth certs would give you more info on the parents than the others

Hi
Thanks I've just looked that up as you suggested :D
According to their birth certs andrew and david were born on 8th july 1855 in silverbanks cambuslang.
David lithgow (father) was born in lanark and both he and elizabeth were 29 yrs old at the time of the boys births, elizabeth was born in cambuslang
Interestingly it also stated that they were her 5th and 6th children, 1 boy and 2 girls living plus 1 girl deceased
Great suggestion!
Thanks heaps
Tracy

Hi Tracn4
Just saw your post about Jane Lithgow & William Jackson..I am currently trying to locate the death/burial of your William's mother Elizabeth WATT...wondering if you have found her...I am a descendant of her brother David Hutchison WATT. I know her husband, Archibald Jackson died 19/7/1905 in Wallsend NSW & is buried in Wallsend Presbyterian Cemetery but unfortunately Elizabeth is not buried with him...she was still living at the time of his death as she is noted as erecting his headstone.
Elizabeth & Archibald emigrated about 1883
David Watt & sister Jane Watt I believe 1st went to the U.S.A with the rest of the WATT family & then emigrated to Australia sometime around 1858.. David remained in the Wallsend/Lambton area where he died in 1909 & Jane moved to Queensland with her husband James Dunlop where she died in 1927 but Elizabeth Jackson (Watt) is proving a mystery after the death of her husband.
I haven't found deaths for Jane Lithgow & William Jackson yet either.
