Could you please advise what information is needed to look up the Sands directories from 1880 through to around 1930. ( Separate lines not the same person)
Can you search for a name if you just have an address?

The names I have are Kezia(h) Clark or Lockett and William Clark and the address was 2 Jenkins St Millers Point ( The Rocks area, Sydney) in 1879.
Thank you
-
Found the following William with a keyword search of Millers - not sure if he is yours
1868
Clark Wm (Dunlop & Clark), Victoria Terrace, Miller's Point
ring any bells?

No, I don't think so. Dunlop and Clarke was a biggish business back in the day I think. My William was a seaman/sailor and Victoria Terrace is quite a way off.
THank you though.

Thank you
2 Jenkins St in 1880 was a brick and stone house with shingled roof, 2 floors, 3 rooms. The owner/landlord was William Jacques who also owned No. 4 and No. 6 Jenkins St. In 1880 the occupier was John Crowley. John Crowley was also there back in 1877. In 1877 there's a William A Clark at 39 Clarence St ;)
In 1880 there was a William Clark as the occupier at 3 Cumberland Street, this was a brick & stone house, with a shingled roof, 1 floor and 4 rooms. The building's agent was T B Dearin.
2 Jenkins St in 1891 was occupied by a C Searson, and the owner/landlord was T Hennessy.

EDIT TO ADD By 1903 the lass born in 1879 was old enough to enrol to vote ;)

Great link JM will have to put that one of my favourites

hmm interesting. Possible, given the three houses in a row were owned by the same person that they were let out as required.
The only information I have is that this is where Keziah Clark was born in 1879. Witnesses are Mrs Clark and Mrs Williamson - probably the midwife. The father's name is given as William Clark.
Is there any way of looking up if a Keziah and William Clark were in the same residence at any time e.g the ones at Cumberland and Clarence streets?

Hi Kaths2010
Do you have Keziah Clark's address as at around say 1903 ? If she was in NSW she may well be on the electoral roll, I have access to the 1903 roll, but not keyword searchable, so if you have general idea of the district for her I will try to find further info.
Hi troods, its on the RChat NSW Resources Board, and there's so many favourites of mine there ;)
Cheers, JM
edit to add by 1903 Keziah Clark's daughter was also old enough to enrol to vote ;)
-
Oh, yes by then she was in the new relationship and had another 8 kids. The missing years are between the time that the daughter was born and her next child with a different father. This is the summary:
- 1867 Keziah Lockett born Beswick Victoria ( I have B/C)
1879 Keziah Clarke ( Lockett) gives birth to Kezia Clark father William Clark at 2 Jenkins St( I have b/c) - yes she was not quite 12 and with information on other certs up to the late 1920s there is no doubt it is her :o
1884 Keziah Clarke(Lockett) gives birth to John Henry father John Henry Rayner
between 1884 and 1910 they have another 17 children
1910 Keziah Clark/Locket legally marries John Henry Rayner with note that she is a widow.
1928 Keziah Rayner/Clark/Lockett dies.
Missing years 1867 to 1879 questions: Where did she live? What happened to William?
There are no records of births or deaths using any of the name combinations even wildcards with initital. A big mystery.
-
On the 1867 birth cert, what are her parents names please, ... perhaps they moved to NSW ... I have 1878 electoral rolls for NSW ;) but only males enrolled and it was not compulsory
Cheers, JM

Have gone down that route on BDMS with no success but they are
William Locket b abt 1823 Oxford England and Mary Ann (formerly Leman late Brown) born abt 1825 England(maybe). There were 2 other siblings Charles b abt 1862 and Emma b abt 1865. Parents were supposed to have married in Melbourne in Jan 1861. No records Victorian or NSW BDM for any of the Lockett family including marriages, births and deaths.
Nothing like a challenge!! ;)

1878 Electoral Roll has
John Crowley listed at Jenkins St, a householder
William Clarke (with "e") at 250 Kent St
Cannot find any Lockett (or variations) registered for that electorate (West Sydney) that included the Gipps Ward

Re 1879 birth
Do you have full transcript for that birth ? Please post the info, perhaps there's clues, I have transcripts for same era in and around the Gipps ward, and the info is quite detailed, including details of parents, and also the informants details.
I like a challenge ;)

I have a full transcript - I'm happy to email it to you so wil send you a PM for address.

Thanks.
It's such a common name and with nothing clear about his DOD it would just be way to expensive to go down the BDM route unless I pay a researcher... which I might still do as it's cheaper than ordering certificates or transcripts.

Search for this address is finalised.
