Thanks Wozzle,

Can I please get back to you tomorrow Mick?
I have quite an extensive list of the Wyatts and am interested in communicating with someone who has more specific knowledge than mine. My research shows that John Wyatt (1833) - whom I believe to be my G.G.Grandfather had father Edward and mother Grace. Let me go through what I already know - I don't want to put you to any trouble.

Best wishes

Hi Mick,

My records tally with what you have told me + Edward Wyatt (17970 married a Grace Smith on 20/08/1820. As well as the 7 mentioned childred, they also also had a daughter Lousia who died aged 1 year in 1825 ( another daughter also named Lousia was born circa 1837). Edwards father - also Edward (1766) married a Sarah Brumble - from Eastborne in 1789.
My John Wyatt  married a Mary Pink (1831 Fordingbridge) and had children all in F/Bridge
George - 1854
Sarah - 1857
Alfred - 1859 (G.Grandfather)
Louisa- 1861
Mary - 1862
Eliza - 1864
John - 1868
James-1870
Apart fron Alfred, I know nothing of John's children at all. I have some postcards addressed to Reginald Harry Wyatt ( Grandfather 1889 and 3rd son of Alfred) from relatives still in Fordingbridge in 1910 - but are almost illigible.
If possible it is these people who I would like to disciover any information.

Sory for long message.

Best wishes

Michael

afraid that I don't.
The 1861 census shows John's family living at "209 Barton" Fordingbridge
the 1871 census shows them at "266 The Bartons" -  I think The Bartons still exists - but probabaly only in a modern form by now.

Pantaloon,

The number before Barton is the schedule number, not the number of the house.  The Bartons in Fordingbridge is a modern name (as you suspected) for a road on the site of an old house called the Bartons.  I'm not sure when it was redevoloped, but the house is marked on the old maps in the 1880s and 90s.

John Thomas Edward and James are very common names for all the branches of Wyatt and this is why I cant get mine back from Appleby Magna in Leicestershire.  All seem to be related somewhere to the WYATT's that had Allington castle

So this can't be your John and Mary in 1881 because of Elizabeth Noyce m-in-law?

Is your Mary Pink just plain Mary or a Mary Ann? I ask because on the censuses this John's wife is always Mary A.
Title: Re: Wyatts in Fordingbridge
Post by: crisane on Saturday 24 April 10 04:42 BST (UK)
OK I answered my own question Mary A Pink.  This couple married in Winchester whereas the couple we have been following through the censuses were married in the Fordingbridge registration district.
Do you have the marriage certificate? Is Edward John's father?

I am leaning towards Mary A being Mary A Noyce as the names of the children all add up.

I have been through all the censuses 1841 - 1881 and the John we have been following is the only born in Fordingham 1833 + or - 1.

I'll see if I can pick up on John and Mary Pink in 1861.

I agree that John did marry Mary Ann Noyce in 1853 because, as you say, the children look right further on. This also makes sense as the eldest son George was born in 1854. The marriage in Fordingbridge also looks right as the family did not seem to move around much as John was a weaver - (river) Yes his father was Edward and mother Grace (nee Smith)

Hi Pantaloon
You really need some certificates to verify our findings especially your g grandfather Alfred's. This will give his mother's maiden name.
Now the only birth of an Alfred Wyatt in Fordingbridge is June 1/4 1858 (not 1859) vol 2b page 502.
There is a Harry Alfred June 1/4 1859 in Fordingbridge but he is with his parents James and Eliza in 1861 so the 1858 birth is yours.
I have found all the births of the other children on FreBMD except for James, the youngest.
I will post my findings later - got to do my housewife act :)

Hi Crisane,
Thanks for comments - you are of course correct - and I now have the birth certificate for Alfred. Born 17th May 1858 to parents John Wyatt and Mary Ann Noyse.
I often think that some of the dates on the census's are a bit 'iffy.
Interesting re Harry Alfred - born 03/06/1859 - I have his certificate as well (because I ordered it incorrectly a few years ago) and it shows his parents as Charles Wyatt and another Mary Ann - this time Cutler. I think that Charles was the elder brother of John and born in 1830. I have tracked him to Hungerford in 1871 with a wife and 5 children but 1881 shows him in prison in Winchester (no idea why) and his younest daughters in the Union workhouse at Fordingbridge.

Best Wishes

Hi
So pleased the certificate verified the correct family. Would have been terrible to go off on the wrong branch.
I have been caught up with things other than genealogy and have lost track of the thread but because you have the cert for Harry Alfred showing parents as Charles and Mary Ann Cutler then ignore what I said!  A good example of why we need certificates. :D
If there is something else you need just refresh my memory.

My husband is connected to the Fordingbridge Wyatts.  His link (I think without checking) that his grandfather was Alfred/Albert and he emigrated to Australia in the 18??.

I will check tonight and provide more information if you are interested.

Hi There,

Yes please - I would be interested to know more - there seem to be four different sections of Wyatts around Fordingbridge and the links between them can be quite difficult to tease out.

Thanks

Thanks Mike.

Charles'  (m Mary Ann Cutler) father was James Wyatt (m Martha Viney).

James and Martha   had Elizabeth b1821; George b 1824; James b.1836; Charles b1829; William b1832; and Henry b1834.

We have info on most of their offspring also.  Please let me know if it is useful.

Cheers

Hi Mike

Francis was my husband's grandfather.  He came to Australia in 1876.

Mary Ann Cutler was born in Ibsley.

Some of the children were born in Hyde, although Francis was born in Fordingbridge.

Have you (or anyone else ) come across a connection between the Wyatt's and the Goodyear's (the tyre family) around the period 1914-1923?
Title: Re: Wyatts in Fordingbridge
Post by: Pantaloon on Friday 01 July 11 16:15 BST (UK)
Hi Helen,

My Charles (1830) had a brother James (1833) who was my GGGrandfather

I have no further knowledge of Francis although he was still in the family home in 1861

The 1861 census shows 2 children - Charles and Ellen but they have vanished in the 1871 census and the other children are there.

I have not had chance to follow that side of the familyyet - I did make a start on Harry who went in to service in one of the large houses in London but returned to live and marry in Wiltshire

Best wishes,

Mike

I can answer your query on what happened to Francis Albert Wyatt, b. 16 Jan 1857 at Fordingbridge to Charles Wyatt and Mary Ann Cutler.
Francis was my G.G. Grandfather and emigrated to Australia as a 20 year old, arriving in Adelaide, South Australia, on 1 Feb 1877 aboard ship "Lochee".
Francis married Adelaide Cooke, before moving to Victoria, becoming a farmer in the Wimmera and Mallee region of Victoria. Francis died on 22 December 1907, wife  Adelaide passing away in 1954 at the age of 94. They had six children, including my Grandfather Arthur James Wyatt b. 1888 at Mount Pleasant, South Australia.
G.G. Grandchildren of Francis Albert still farm the same land to this day.
Regards,
Ken

married Emily Macey in 1851 is my GG Grandfather.  We must be distant cousins! How exciting !I would love to see your family tree.
