Title: Albert (Victor) EVANS, 1901 Census look up please
Post by: janjim on Thursday 18 September 08 08:41 BST (UK)
I am trying to find information on my Uncle who was born, we think at Redruth 1895.   Probably migrated to Adelaide Australia 1912, no details on that yet.

Think his parents were William Thomas, and Mary Jane Evans.

Looking forward to any information that can be found on them.

I found a marriage for Mary Jane Evans 1882, but not sure if that tallies up.

If we can find Albert Evans on 1901 census would most appreciate that

No, I don't have an exact date of birth, going by freebdm, I'm thinking it was about 1895, he married in Australia 1920, looks like he migrated around 1912.

We do know that he definitely came from Cornwall, Redruth seems to be the area, and Penryn is also mentioned as his family home in Australia.

Not by any means certain but this is the nearest I can see.

I think a safe bet would be to buy Alberts marriage cert to find his fathers name.

Sisterjane,

thanks for this info, I think I will have to apply for the marriage certificate.

His death details in  Australia in 1875 show his parents as being William Thomas and Mary Jane.   I do know that he had a step-sister, but that is about all we know, so it is possible that Mary Jane re-married, still trying to piece it together.

Regards

I am trying to find where my Uncle Albert Victor Evans, b. approx 1895, lived in Cornwall England, his parents probably Thomas & Mary Jane Evans.   He died in Australia in 1975 after migrating to Adelaide, South Australia, date unknown, but probably early 1900's.

Wonder if someone could kindly check census records for 1901

There is a birth for a plain Albert Evans - Oct/Nov/Dec 1895, Redruth 5c 197
Perhaps he added a middle name later

modified to add - but he is on 1901 with parents Rchard and Emily

Yes, thank you for reminding me I had put a post on before, sorry about that.
It's just that I'm travelling to Cornwall from Australia soon, and was trying to get an idea of where he lived.

But we seem to have the wrong parents.  I'll have to do more research here in Australia.

Thanks all for your assistance.

Hi Jan,

Just wondering where you got the middle name from? I do see the death you mention in NSW in 1975 for an Albert Victor EVANS. Are you sure this is your Albert? I ask as there are certainly Albert Victor Evans' in NSW yet I note the marriage lists your chap simply as Albert. Following him in the electoral Rolls I note Albert no middle name and Nellie Edith Mary in Banksia Road, Bankstown - again Nellie listed by three names - Albert only as Albert, right through to 1954.  :-\ Strikes me if his middle name was Victor it should have been used in these other entries.

Have you purchased the marriage certificate or a transcript of it? In this case Albert will have provided the details of his parents himself. Details provided on death certificates are only as good as the knowledge of the person providing the information.

Cheers Kris  :)

Hi Kris,
I was pretty sure that my Uncle had the middle name of Victor, I remember asking him one day when I was a child if he had a middle name, but then I could be wrong.   Yes, and with Nellie Edith Mary his wife, well I never knew about that third name of Edith, until I found the records, so what can you say.   I was pretty sure that he died around 1975.
Thanks for looking up the electoral rolls, yes that is right in Banksia Road, Bankstown that was their address.

I haven't ordered the marriage certificate as yet, I should be doing this.

Hi Jan

I know that this topic is old, and you probably already have the info you need, but I couldn't help myself I had to reply.

Albert Evans is my Great grandfather ( I am possitive he is the same man as you are looking for  :)  as Nellie Edith Mary is my Great Grandmother) and to the best of my knowledge his middle name wasn't Victor and he died around 1971. I don't know how much that info helped you (if at all), but I just had to reply  :)

Hi Odaxjack,
Well if Nellie is your Great Grandmother (was she maiden name of New) well then we have much to exchange.

Maybe if you could send me a Personal message, we can exchange information.

I am a daughter of Edmund Walter New deceased, the youngest brother of Nellie Edith Mary Evans.

Thanks Odaxjack for that info.
Having looked at NSW BDM records online, now find there is an Elric Albert Evans died 1971, parents Richard and Mary Ellen Evans.

Finally got the correct names, could possibly be Albert Alrick Evans, or even Albert Elrick Evans,  but if anyone can help me with shipping records, that would be absolutely great.    Still believe he came to Australia prior to 1915, and definitely arrived in Adelaide.

Cheers
