I am trying to trace my wifes family from Colne Lancashire. Her Great Great Grandfather was Cork Townson and her Great Great Grandmother was Ann Townson. They would have been approx 42 and 35 at the time of the 1881 census.
They lived at
6 Cross St
Colne, Lancashire, England
If anyone has anything that would assist us in getting further information on the above subject , such as how to get birth certs or any other certs we would love to hear from you.
Thanks Tony and Janis

Hi - hope this helps
On IGI:
Cork Townson was born 14/4/1838 and christened 22/11/1840 at Colne. His parents were William and Jane. He had at least one sibling, a sister Rachel who was born 21/9/1840 and they were christened on the same day.
On FreeBMD:
His birth is registered in Burnley district June quarter Volume 21, Page 224.

Just a nugget you might be interested in.
Daniel Holmes Townson (b1878 (see above)), was married in Portsmouth in 1909 and served in the First World War as a Private in the Manchester Regiment with the service number 6868. He was killed 19/1/1915 and is buried (or maybe just commemorated) in Colne Cemetery. For some reason he served under the alias "E. Jones" I would be interested myself if anyone knows anything more about him.

Ernest Jones Townson is my Great Great Grandfather. He worked as a pianist before the war. I also have a list of all his children, birth and deaths as well as causes. However I would love to learn more.

Hi Tony / Janis.
I believe Cork was also my great great grandfather.
My branch come from his son Morrison.
If you google Townson of Cornwall my dad put together some of the family tree.
My great grandfather was also called Cork and was interested to know where the first name came from.
Regards
Scott Townson
