Hi, I'm looking for anything about the Knipe family at Aberystwyth. I know Harold Redmayne Knipe's parents were married there and that he was born in 1905. His mother was Ruth Adeline McKay. Any Harold died in 1967 and I know nothing else. Any leads greatly appreciated.

Hello
There is a Harold R Knipe marriage to Violet M Worthing in 1942 at Shrewsbury
Reference Shrewsbury Volume 6a Page 2236
However please exercise caution and communicate via PM as any children will probably be living.
Best Wishes

Also found a death notice in the Liverpool Journal of 1st January 1881:
KNIPE, Dec 30th, William Redmayne, aged 7mths, youngest son of W. R. KNIPE, The Cresent, Rochdale, late this city.
Interesting that Harold H was a photographer; maybe that's how he met his wife. He doesn't seem to be with her and Harold R in Aberystwyth in 1911 so maybe travelling on business.

Hi, I believe my father worked with Harold Knipe in the National Library of Wales. Would this be the same person?
Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for the reply.
Could be, I'm not aware of any other Harold Knipe in Wales at that time.
My side of the family came out to Australia around 1850 and I have only just managed to find the connection to this side so know very little. I have managed to fill in some gaps and the connection to William Redmayne Knipe (the book seller in Ulverston/Liverpool - his father William, Grocer of Kirkland is the common ancestor) but not much more.
Would be very interested in making connections and learning more.
cheers

Thanks for all the responses.
The photographic studio is interesting - i think I saw an earlier reference to this in the census. Curious that a relative in Australia was a photographer at the same time in Victoria. Is there anywhere else I could track this?
cheers

Also he seems to have worked in partnership:

28 Pier Street, Aberystwyth appears to be a pizzeria today. On the google map the address may have been the site of Evered Davies Photography later in the century. Perhaps someone could confirm this.

The Mandarin Chinese Restaurant is at 26 Pier Street and this used to be Everard Davies photographers

HI, I'm Harold Redmayne Knipe's grandaughter.
Harold passed away before I was born but Violet (my grandmother) stayed with us until 1986. Harold and Violet had 2 children, Frederick Alan Knipe (who has sadly passed away) and my mother - Margaret Jean Knipe.
I was intrigued to find your search, please feel free to enlighten me into any additional family members as I have recently decided to research my family tree.
:) :)

Hi Abergirl,
I have put some additional information in that message you can't access yet, including contact details.
To put things into a bit of context for you, the Australian Branch of the family started with William Batty Knipe (1823-1903). He was the son of the Christopher Knipe. Christopher was the brother of William Redmayne Knipe, the line your family is descended from. I believe William Batty Knipe spent some time with William Redmayne Knipe in Liverpool before coming to Australia.
The family came from Kendal and are connected the Batty family (Inghamites), William Bowness (the artist) and the Lough family (printers and confectioners).
We will be in Kendal in September, so hope to dig up a bit more infomation.
Cheers
Kevin
