Title: Joseph Buckle - Lookup
Post by: Brant81uk on Sunday 23 May 10 15:02 BST (UK)
I have been looking at my Gt Grans line of Buckles and when I added her father I noticed he had a hint to say he'd served in the WW1. Would anybody be able to find him for me?

He was born abt 1879 in Pershore, Worcestershire. Any help would be appreciated.

Something I managed to find...

I have no idea what this says or means! Just that he was going to serve in the Army Service Corps - Regimental Number: 1985

Hi Tyrone.

Joseph Buckle was my Great Grandfather through Winifred Buckle marrying Jack Grozier, my maternal Grandfather.

I may be able to fill in some blanks for you. Certainly I have a few photographs which I plan to scan.

My mother, who knew her grandfather very well, is now too old and infirm to remember much about his history. The family stories I remember include him being a horseman and his family in the Vale of Evesham were horse dealers I believe. Joseph was in service and was chauffeur to the Sainsbury family. He was in America for a period of time, I think before the Great War. I do not have a record of when he married Lillian or when he moved to the Godalming area and, sadly I know little about his period in the Army. I am told he was badly gassed on the Western front which affected his lungs and made him an invalid in later years. We had his medals but these were stolen some time in the late sixties. They were a set of three or four, including the usual campaign medals (Mons star, British War medal and Victory Medal). I would like to know more about Joseph's war history if you have any information.

Let me know if you would like to have photos when I scan them.

Hi Drew,

Sorry for late reply Joseph Buckle I found out was actually my gt gt uncle not my great grandfather. My great grand father was Arthur Buckle, Joseph's brother who was W.I.A and later died of his injuries in London. I would love to see photos of Joseph it would give me an idea of what my great grandfather looked like. I also have a photo of their older brother Charles Buckle I think or John, forgive me as I haven't looked at my tree in ages and I'm doing this off my phone.

Anyway thanks for the reply and I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Tyrone.

Hello I'm the Great Granddaughter of William Buckle brother to these two, so anything I can fill in down my side and I've got a lot of information about the family through John Buckle son of Walter Buckle (my Great Uncle), I don't know if you've come across him on your searches.
