Title: aiding my Charlton family research
Post by: CharltonSearch on Friday 28 May 10 01:01 BST (UK)
I am searching for information on the "Charlton" family in  County Roscommon Ireland. This family is of R/C religion. The ancestor I am looking for information on is Thomas Charlton b.16 Nov 1824 in County Roscommon and died in Detroit Michigan 09 Apr 1896. Thomas was married to Louisa Hesse or Hessy. They moved out of Ireland around 1849 during the famine and settled originally in Amaranth Twp and then the Town of Freelton, Ontario (farmers) Canada , in Canada around 1850 -1851. Later moving to Detroit area around 1873 till Thomas death in Detroit 1896. Thomas's father believed to be Patrick Charlton b.1799 in Ireland

I'm sorry that you have had any responses but that's not the way Rootschat works. Many people read lots of different posts here but perhaps can't help so they don't post anything on your thread. Now that you've added a post (and I will have also) even more people will read this thread but many of them will have seen the original query so lots of viewings doesn't correspond to lots of replies.
Unfortunately the information you are seeking is before the start of civil registration in Ireland so there will be no birth certificate for Thomas or marriage certificate for him and Louisa. Therefore, you need to search for church records but to do so you need to know where they lived in Ireland (parish if not actual townland, not just 'Ireland' or 'Roscommon').
Civil registration of deaths began in 1864 but there are no deaths in Roscommon for a Patrick Charlton so perhaps Thomas' father lived elsewhere or died before 1864.
Suggest you have a look at Intoduction to Irish records and perhaps take a look at RESOURCES at the top of this board but I'm afraid without a more exact location you'll struggle to find any more information.
