Thanks Stan, and apologies Finbar, I didn't read your reply carefully enough. Lovely to see the chapel.

I think Google earth lets you walk by at ground level and see the chapel

Thank you for the suggestion Esdel.
Unfortunately I can never get the little yellow man to work for me!

Keep hitting the + to go lower and lower.
If you are over a road he should now show automatically.
If not, load the latest version of Google Earth, free download
Good luck!

Thank you Esdel, but I can never get the little yellow man to face the right way! I'll just have to be satisfied with the excellent photos that have already been posted.
Cheers,
Hazel.

Thank you, Stan, for helping me again with information about Birdhope Craig. I must have passed the place many times in my youth (long ago), but never realized there was a chapel there. Also, I found the article about its history very interesting.
Regards,
Hazel.

Hi to everyone who mentioned birdhope Craig chapel. It is still standing in 2015 and has been converted into a holiday home , there are few pictures of it online at Sykes cottages 😊
-
Hi Blues!
Thanks for alerting me to the Sykes Cottage conversion of Birdhope Craig chapel. In fact, I'm always getting emails from Sykes Cottages, but had never noticed the new property!
Cheers, Hazel.

Hi hazel , wasn't really expecting a reply as this is an old post. Sorry should have been more clear. The church came up for sale about three years ago and my wife and I bought it. It took a year and a half to get the planning permission and have been doing the work for about the last fourteen months.
I have always been online to try and find any Old friends of the chapel and have came across this post many times .Just thought now that we are nearly done there may be people may want to visit if passing. Bearing in mind we rent it out so a heads up would be good but all are welcome who have an interest or related past. Barry

Thanks for your interesting message, Barry. I will send you a PM.

Thank you Lazytee for posting the original question....I believe my 5x great grandmother was baptised there in 1755, Isabell Scott...........very interesting.

Hi Steve!
I'm glad you liked my post about Birdhope Craig. Perhaps you could use the new holiday cottage as a base for exploring that part of Northumberland looking for the places where your ancestors lived. It's not far from Kirkwhelpington.
Good Luck!

Barry kindly showed the property to my sister and me when we visited the area in June. I've been trying to post the images here, but it won't let me. I'll try again in the next day or two.
If anybody wants me to send large images, please send me a PM (personal message) giving your email address and I'll oblige.
The sign over the door says "BIRDHOPE CRAIG SCOTCH CHURCH 1826" Not Scottish but Scotch!
The sign over the manse door says "BIRDHOPE CRAIG MANSE 1830"

More images from our visit to Birdhope Craig Scotch Church.
Here is the pulpit and a plaque remembering one Rebecca Marshall.
Barry is doing a fine job at restoring the building.
