Hello,
I'm having trouble finding Ann Elizabeth Bridgens on the 1881 census.
She is missing only from that census. I have her at home with parents Henry and Ann in Stourbridge in 1871. In the late 1880's the family move to Rochdale and I have her again at home with parents in 1891, 1901 and 1911.
She was christened on 17th December 1865, in Old Swinford, Stourbridge.
In 1871 she is down just as Elizabeth. On all the other census' she is Ann Elizabeth.
Thanks
Jonathan

Hi, Pam
Thanks, i'm glad I decided to look into her no show in 1881.
I checked straight away from marriages between James Spencer's and Sarah's and found that very one in Rochdale in 1858. Which was a very welcome sight, as thats the name I was looking for.
Her father is Henry Bridgens and her mother Ann Ashworth.
In 1881 her family are still down in Stourbridge.
My thinking was that Sarah must be mother Ann's elder sister. However she isn't with family in 1841 or 1851. 51 I can understand because she would be 20, the 41 not so clear cut.
Why would they say Niece though?
Thanks again
Jonathan

I always thought Niece could be a step daughter?
