2nd attempt - I attached my first ever message to someone else's post!
Modified on 29th March!
I've discovered today from Perth & Kinross Council Archive that in "local Directories, c 1855 - 1875 Joseph Sime, Warder, lived at 89 South Street, Perth". Could someone please look for him in the 1861 & 71 census? His son Joseph Sime, was born c1850. His wife's name might be Catharine. I'd be grateful for any help you can give. Thanks JB

I don't have a census look-up, but thought this might help you. I found it on the IGI site.

That's kind, thanks, Anne.
I've just had Joseph's marriage certificate in Poplar, London, which shows his occupation as a mariner. I can only assume that he was at sea for the 1881 census.
I still wonder where he was in 61 and 71...!

Hi Katarina
Thanks so much for the information - it's all new to me, so I'll certainly be able to explore that further now :)
Does anyone know where Little Dunkeld is, or how far it is from Perth itself, since he describes himself as born in Perth in later censuses.

The Parish of Little Dunkeld is just across the River Tay from Dunkeld, about 20 or so miles North from Perth. Dorothy
