Title: Beaconsfield, John Gilder,1850
Post by: gilder on Saturday 05 June 10 23:13 BST (UK)
Looking for links to Gilder Family who lived in Beaconsfield.  John Gilder had a son Edward who came to NZ about 1860.  Little is known about life prior.

1850 cannot be his birthyear if Edward went to NZ in 1860

When was Edward born?  Was he born in Buckinghamshire or elsewhere?

My mistake, death certificate for Edward shows born Benneston, Yorkshire came to NZ age 11.

Father John Gilder born 1821 Burnham, Buckingham, England.  Mother Amelia Gilder nee Beverley.  Both lived at Beaconsfield, Buckingham.

Edward is my great grandfather. Would like to know more about John's family. This is a recent discovery - links with London.

NZ BMD's show possible marriages for Gilder
Andrew Beverley to Elizabeth Smith 1889
Edward to Agnes Smyth 1892

Edith Maude to George Bigwood 1892
Ann to George Crow 1879

So they arrived in NZ between 1871 and 1879 and their surname changed from Gelder to Gilder.

Thank you Carole. It appears I have some more work to do putting all this together.  I have received more information about John and Amelia.  John's son Edward married Agnes Smyth.  That is confirmed.  Will obtain John's death certificate.

I am coming in late to this discussion. I am travelling up to Beverley on Saturday 2nd August and I will be stopping off at Howden and Luddington. I have also just received John Gelder (Gilder) and Amelia Beverley's marriage certificate. My ex-husband is descended from Edward Gilder who married Agnes Smyth. I do have a lot of information back home in NZ and will be returning home in October after travelling for 5 years.

I'm sorry, but we have been informed today by her daughter that the RootsChatter, Gilder has sadly away.
