My grandfather was Frederick Barnard and was born in 1912 in Wangaratta. His fathers name was Francis Barnard.
I can't find any information on my grandfathers brothers and sisters and his mother and her maiden name.
Any HELP would be greatly appreciated :) :) :)

The closest one to that year/place is

I am told that my grandfather died of lung cancer in 1978. Aged 66 years.
His wifes name was Doris watts.
They lived in Stalbans together until his death.
I am told he had 9 brothers and sisters.
He and his family when he was groing up lived in Wangaratta, so i was assuming he was born there, I could be wrong.
I had been told that Barnard st Bendigo and Barnard st Beechworth were named after a relative of mine a long time ago, not sure if this is true or not.
Im sorry i dont have a birth reg number.

There marriage does not appear on the index that is why I suggested you purchase the birth certificate of Margaret. If they married in Victoria or elsewhere it will be detailed on the birth certificate. You can't really progress with you research until you have those details ie if you wish to find out where they married and where they were born.

A number of the above marriages that have been found were all post 1920. You will need to re-read the thread.

Hello my name is Maureen and I am Dazza71's carer.

I only mentioned re-reading past posts to absorb and detail the information already supplied. It is very easy to be a bit overwhelmed with information. ;D
We are always keen to help people with their research but some of the information you are seeking is simply not available publicly. Names of the children of the marriages would be on the death certificates of the parents.
Maureen it may be a good idea to make a family chart or tree.....I use to do that when I first started my research years ago.
Do ask if you think we can help with records that would be available. Perhaps a read through some of the resources may help also.

John Edward Barnard (son of Frederick and Margaret Barnard frmly Hibberd) is my great grandfather.
I have been trying to work on my family tree for the last couple of months. I am so excited to see your response about finding an extensive family tree that relates to this... and PICS!
Currently, I am trying to find James Barnard's parents. James was married to Catherine O'connor who had Frederick Barnard married Margaret Barnard who had John Edward Barnard and the other siblings. I have a BDM certificates that state they were all miners over in Bendigo/Sandhurst.

Hi Dazza,znd Danielle, James Barnard's parents were Abraham Barnard and Mary Hayden, and they lived in Thaxted in Essex in England where James was born.
there is no record of their marriage in Castlemaine or the Vic index
Briget Whelan (Hibberd) died 18 June 1891 in Bendigo (not 1943)
James is in the 1841 census with his uncle James Hayden
There is not much about Aubrey born 1884, I think he must have died in infancy I think

What a shame. Did you or someone else search the Parish records held by the Castlemaine Historical Society? I wouldn't expect to find it on the Vic bdm's as the marriage occurred before civil registration and unless the parish record was made available to the registry it wouldn't have been transcribed. What religion was James?
Extracted parish records - It is good genealogical practice to have the source of your information....and you may be just plain interested ;D

James was a baptist/ nonconformist, the parents seem to have changed faith around the time James was born.
I have been in touch with the Castlemaine historical society very recently, and they searched their records to no avail. We have wondered, with Catherine being Catholic and James not, perhaps they never did marry?? The people who I spoke to said that some of the early records were sent to St francis church in Melbourne for storage

The explanation sounds plausible....I can remember someone requesting info about parish records at St Francis. I have a resource that lists all the Parish Registers in Australia. I shall return ;D

how many children they had ?? Well I know they had my grandfather, but I believe there is at least one more which I am working on.
When was john born and died??? John was born on 11/10/1907 and died 11/11/1983 (I have both certificates I believe but will need to check that)
When was his wife born and died?? It's been difficult to find info on Gwen. I think she died in 1998, but I can't be sure if that was the funeral that I went to... poor memory....we were not close at all. I remember her from when I was a child though.
My best guess on james barnard is that he was born in the 1820's, either in Victoria or England. im not sure. I cannot purchase any documents online at this stage.
I believe he was born in Thaxted, Essex UK. But like you, I am not 100%
Have you realised like I have that we are part of a very large family ???

My name is Robert and I am the Grandson of Robert 1912. I have been doing this stuff for quite a long time, and have our Family Tree dating back to 1450 in England. Yes 1450!! And I know a lot of this off the top of my head these days! Exciting to find a descendant of Uncle Fred's. By the way, my research suggests that Barnard St. in Bendigo was in fact named after a Thomas Barnard, and not our 3xGGF James. Hey Dazza, James also had a brother named alfred, born either before or after arthur. Have you noticed how arthur and alfred's names seem strange as compared to the rest which were common Barnard names. Because they were named by the parish priest! This is all documented in the Barnard family bible flyleaf, which l may still have a copy of. Alfred's g.grandson definately does. Google Alfred, and you will be surprised what you will find. He toured and documented all of the Whiskey Distilleries in England and Scotland. You can still buy his books today, and original versions are worth a small fortune. P.S. I also have a photo of the house James lived and died in. It is still standing today!! Rob

To my understanding Fred had 8 children and none of them are interested in finding out about our family history.
I am Kevins son, one of 8 children aand am very interested in putting together, as best i can, our family history.
I did know about Alfred's touring but did not realise that we were related to him, I have him down as James's sibling.
I will email you and try to catch up with you if possible.

Anyhow I'm another cousin of your father Kevin and if you require any further details of your grandfather Fred and his brothers & sister I may be able to assist. My father is the last remaining of Fred's siblings.

It was great to receive your response and I agree with your sentiments. From your comments you know who I am and yes I did live in the eastern suburbs but moved further east a couple years ago. Unfortunately I'm not as intuitive and cannot work out which cousin you are or who are your parents. I'm guessing Ken & Eileen due the weight of numbers. The last time I met with any cousins was at Catherine's funeral in 1984 I believe.
I'm keen to send you a PM with contact details and currently working through this process (I believe you must submit 3 posts before you can send a PM so I've got one more to go. I'll be good to access to your family knowledge which by your posts is extensive.

William Royal Barnard was my Great Grand father, my grandma was Thora Bradshaw (Barnard)
Fred was wiliams father and freds Father James died of burns at the age of 91 in castlemane he was a gold miner and was the first in our line to come over here from england in 1857.

Hey steve, James Barnard came to Australia in 1851 at the age of 18. he was the only one from his family to come to Australia. he had many children that both you and i are descended from.

I have been trying to find as much info on Gwendoline or Gwendolyn Barnard. She was my Great Grandmother. Also, Maureen May Barnard - my Grandmother. I know that my Grandmother died about 29 years ago.
I know who is related to who, but I really want to find out info on who they were as people, their lives, health issues, personality traits and info about what happened happened to the family back in the mid 60's.
I can't ask my grandfather or my mum about it, but I know something happened which caused a great division. if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Your grandfather Fred, was my cousin, I am the youngest child of William Royal and Mary Lavinia Barnard (nee Beatty), after reading quite a few of your posts and those of others I see a few discrepancies.
