Post by: Bullamore on Sunday 13 June 10 19:52 BST (UK)
Hi, I am trying to start my family tree.
Starting with my grandmother, Maria BiaLecki bn October 1900 in Kurszen, Germany.
She mrd into the Geppert family, in Kurszen.
They lived later in Wickede/Ruhr.
Maria died in Sepember 1950.
I am hoping that someone will be able to help me, please.
Kind Regards

Kreis Rawitsch (Rawicz) was on the southern edge of the province of Posen, bordering on Silesia.

At some stage I copied the attached notes from the web. They should provide a good starting point for you.

Korzen is in Wartheland. You can find it here:

http://gov.genealogy.net/ShowObjectSimple.do?id=object_263537

IGI Batchnumbers for Rawitsch show Bialecki and Geppert, but unfortunately your dates are a bit too late.

These families will be a bit of challenge, especially if you do not speak/read German.

I checked through the file I posted yesterday and now realise that several of the links do not work. The original German pages are here http://www.rootschat.com/links/08y8/.

I cannot find a map showing Korzen; it must have been tiny. It looks like the modern Polish name is Przybyszów, which is about 5km NNW of Kepno (Kempen).

The best place for you to start is probably the bilingual 'Posen L mailing list'  http://www.posen-l.com/.

After WWI, this region was eventually (c1921/22 I think) taken over by the newly re-created state of Poland. It is likely that the Gepperts moved west at that time, although they may have fled during the closing months of WWII to escapethe wrath of the advancing Russian army.
