JAMES BRUCE was born c 1791/3, he was the son of George Bruce and Elizabeth Dalgleish.
He marr Elizabeth Waddell in 1818 in Westruther, Berwickshire,Scot.
The had 8 known children including a set of twins all born in Westruther.
Associated surnames are:Dickson and Haliburton..
Need to find out when and where George Bruce (c1763)and Elizabeth Dalgleish (c1765)were born and where they married
and when and where they died.
Anything would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
I am also researching this line (just started a couple of weeks ago). Have got back to James Bruce of Westruther (around 1800), his son John (born 1823, married to Agnes Dickson), their son James (1851, Elizabeth Thomson), their son James (1878, Mary Strachan) and their daughter Elizabeth (my grandmother born 1912).
Any information we could share would be great

Dates are in UK format dd.mm.yyyy
Wedderlie is a farm near Westruther that still exists today. www.wedderliefarm.co.uk/farm.htm
The inscription comes from the book Berwickshire The Western Parishes Monumental Inscriptions pre 1855 published by the Scottish Genealogy Society
I hope this information is of use to you.

Thanks Iain
According to the 1861 census, John Bruce (son of James) was a shepherd at Raecleugh Farm (also near Westruther). Raecleugh also appears still to be a working farm.
I am hoping to get up to Westruther in the summer to have a look round.

Thank you Becky...yes I have those census and even figured out who the little 2 yr old is in the 1851 James and Betty Bruce family, she is their grandaughter.
I am awaiting to hear from ARDBEG as she fits right into my line.

Iain ...Thank you for that posting...Aw yes...I do have that MI from Westruther.
I am very lucky to have the pre 1855 MI for Berwickshire..and probably a good thing too...time has,is,and will eventually obliterate all those old stone.
So recordings and pictures are soooo important for future researchers.
