Hi
Hope someone can help.
Photographing War Graves in Weaste Cemetery, Salford, I have come across this Grave, what me and a few others don't understand is how this guy ended up in Salford???
Any info would be great, so we try and put some sort of profile together for Local History and possibly find family of his.
Thanks

The death of a Joseph Alonzo is recorded on FreeBMD. It was registered in March (qtr) 1935 in Salford. He was 55. That age would just about make him old enough to have served in 1898. If so a Salford paper of the time would have covered his funeral.
I don't have my world sub to Ancestry anymore. Someone in the US section may know if army records for that war are online.

Thanks Ken
I have world sub on Ancestry, will check that out, and check the local papers as well.
If anyone else comes up with something in the meantime...........................

Interesting.
I have a link to rosters here

The Wiki history says the 5th didnt participate in the war, arriving too late.
Cheers

I would check out who paid for the grave? There must be information on who paid for it and an address? I am sure they wouldn't charge a local history group for this information?

Someone else has already checked Mig, and there is nothing, looks like it might be a War Grave headstone???
In which case they will have erected it.

Hi
Joseph Alanzo was a very close family friend to my Grandparents, and lived with them for a long time before he died. My mum remembers him as "Yank". My mum is now 85 yrs old and has been asking to go and see Joesph`s grave.
Have you managed to find any more about him or even got any pictures.
Thank you

Good luck in your quest Michele and welcome. He must have stayed an US citizen and requested one of their military headstones
