Hi all, I'm a newbie so be gentle with me!! ;D
I am really interested to know what the history of the site that currently has the Stag & Rainbow Pub and Premier Inn Hotel on it?
I know that the general area has a long and presitigious history centering around West Derby but would really like to know what was on the corner of what is now Queens Drive and Mill Bank. I'm interested in its recent past (i.e., the last (20 - 100 years)
I suspect there may be a milling connection given it is near to both Mill Bank and Mill Lane and on the opposite corner is "The Jolly Miller" Pub. ???
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

This 1/2500 map of 1893 seems to cover the area http://www.british-history.ac.uk/mapsheet.aspx?sheetid=10188&compid=55207 There is a Mill Bank Quarry marked

Thanks for that information - I did happen to stumble across that map in my searches.
I'm seeking information that is more recent than that.
Even to find out what was on the site immediately before the Stag & Rainbow pub would be useful.
There seems to be a big gap between the really old and the most recent (1880 to now)?!?

Looking at a 1906 map of West Derby, the corner plot appears to be a large house called Beechwood.

I worker on beechwood house in the early 70s . It was renovated by the council including rentokill treating all the dry rot. As the job finished i had to remove the side of the main staicase and behind it was an orange fungus. I was an apprentice joiner for john james ashton . The house was to be decorated by the school next to it but that never happened for years i passed the house on the bus i seen rentokill vans there but in the end the house was knocked down . The council must have payed a fortune renovating it but that Liverpool council for you not much changed even today.
