Georgiana married William Wingate in 1833. She was probably from Ellesmere in Shropshire but I can't find her birth anywhere and therefore don't know her parents names. I wondered if she could be related to Elizabeth Edwards who married David bird as James Wingate was staying with the Bird family in the 1851 census. Elizabeth Edwards also had a sister Harriet who married William Beckett in Wem in 1804.
If anyone can help it would be great. Mimbyjim

Hiya Mimbyjim....go to www.familysearch.org

OK I have been through 1805 to 1815 in Ellesmere for Elizabeth Edwards
1807 father James mother Elizabeth
1813 father John mother Mary
1815 father John mother Anne
so none match the Thomas / Mary...... PARENTS OF GEORGIANA
there were 857 Elizabeth Edwards listed....you now need to go on that site and put in Elizabeth Edwards babtism 1820 5 years either side and see if you can find an Elizabeth Edwards born Ellesmere parents Thomas and Mary....good luck....allan ;)

Hi, I used the Hugh Wallis pages to identify the batch numbers for Ellesmere, Shropshire & then searched. There are six baptisms listed where the parents are Thomas & Mary between 1803 & 1821 (there are more in the 1840s). No guarantee that they are children of the same Thomas & Mary, but they do include an Elizabeth listed as born 18 Oct 1802, baptised 27 April 1803 and a Harriet born 18 February 1806, baptised 25 April 1807.
Looking at marriages, purely in Ellesmere there are two for Thomas Edwards to Mary that could be parents:
18 February 1794 to Mary Owens
17 December 1801 to Mary Jones
If either or both of these couples stayed in the parish they could be parents - equally it could be another couple entirely.

Hi Mimbyjm,
I dont know if you have the Census entries or Christenings for the family so will post anyhow. Sometimes this will help in establishing info on other queries.
Birth/Christenings;
WINGATE, Oldham Street Presbyterian, Liverpool, Lancashire
Parents;
William WINGATE and Georgiana Jane EDWARDS
WILLIAM EDWARD Wingate, Birth 04 April 1836/ Christened 10 May 1836
JAMES FENTON Wingate, Birth 27 April 1838/ Christened 15 June 1838
THOMAS OLIVER Wingate, Birth 06 June 1840/ Christened 08 June 1840
1841 Census
Wellington Road,
Childwall, West Derby, Lancs
HO107/511/9/Childwall
Georgina WINGATE, 20, No
Thomas Clives (sic) Wingate, 1, Yes
Elizabeth Louise?, 20, No (Transcribed as Wingate )
John GARNELL, 20, Yes
Theretha Garnell, 20, Yes
James WINGATE age 3, not born in County seems to be living in Ellesmere, Shropshire in a large Household. It is a School and he is the last listed after 2 Servants;
HO107/918/2/Ellesmere
Death Reg FreeBMD;
Georgiana Jane WINGATE, March 1845, I of Wight, 8 179
ELIZABETH EDWARDS, IGI Extracted,
Birth 12 October 1802, Christened 27 April 1803 Ellesmere, Shropshire
Parents THOMAS and MARY
On the same Batch (which ends 1812) are;
MARY, Christened 08 Oct 1804
HARRIETT, 25 Sept 1807
CHARLOTTE ANN, 08 July 1810
On the batch with Georgiana which starts 1813 is a THOMAS Edwards, 24 June 1821 who may be a later sibling.
There are several christenings to a Thomas/Maria Edwards on the batch 1849-1861 which are probably children of Thomas born c 1821;
MARY 1847
JOHN 1849
FRANCES 1850
THOMAS 1853
DANIEL 1859
ANNA MARIA, 1861
So it looks like Elizabeth BIRDS nee Edwards is Geoorgianas Sister and therefore the Aunt of James ;)
Possible Marriage Thomas EDWARDS/Mary JONES, 17 December 1801, Ellesmere, Shropshire

Thank you Allen ;D

Thank you everyone who replied to this - as confirmation a second cousin has just come up with the diary of James Fenton Wingate in which he refers to Uncle Beckett, presumably the husband of Harriet Edwards! Thanks to all of you I have now found the baptism IGI for Georgiana, she was born quite a bit later than the others so can go on from there. Philippa :)

You are very welcome Phillipa. We all enjoy the chase ;)
Just realised I did not put Thomas's age on 1841 Census so have added now.
-
1851 Census William Wingate is with his Auntie Ann Marshall and Husband and other Uncle Oliver Wingate in Edinburgh, Scotland.
I have no idea which Son of William and Georgina you are descended from so if you need anything else please ask.

Very interested in the Diary of James Fenton Wingate. I also have a diary from J Fenton Wingate who was in the Gordon Highlanders in 1895. He was my Great Grandfather`s (walter Ernest Fenton Wingate) brother. I can`t confirm whether it was James Fenton Wingate or John Fullerton Beatson Fenton Wingate, who was a trumpeter killed in the Boer War on Wagon Hill. Any info would be greatly appreciated
I have been researching the Fenton Wingate`s from Trinitygask for some time and Georgiana has been a hard person to research so far.
The Fenton Wingate`s were related to Major General Orde Wingate, however I am still trying to find the link.

James Fenton Wingate died 26 June 1890 on board City of venice returning to England from Ceylon

Index of Wills and Administration - John fullarton Beatson Fenton Wingate of Salisbury, Rhodesia, died 8 January 1900 at Ladysmith,Natal, South Africa, probate granted to Anna Maria Wingate, wife of Thomas Oliver Wingate. :)

Thanks for the info, I`m lucky to have found that already. Do you know of any information in the diary of James Fenton Wingate that relates to his military service?
I`m also interested in knowing relatives of James Fenton Wingate...my Great Great Grandfather was Colonel Thomas Oliver Wingate, brother of James Fenton Wingate who was killed at sea travelling from Ceylon to England...
-
Sorry I misunderstood :-[
-
Don`t be sorry, I`m happy for any information.... Interesting that someone else out there has a diary from one of my ancestors.....I`ve studied the diary that I have, quite a few times, and you always pick up something new.....
Regards, Ross

I would like to know more about J. F Wingate. I believe that he is also the Cousin of Sir reginald Francis Wingate. I have his three draw telescope with his name on it. I also believe he was a tea planter in ceylon.
