For my own research I've transcribed the muster rolls for the 40th [2nd Somersetshire] Regiment of Foot from 1826 to 1846 so if anybody's looking for someone in that Regiment maybe I could help.

DiGi I would be interested to know if there is a David Boast among your lists. Private later Sgt although I think I have him on the 1841 census in barracks somewhere.
I think I found the whereabouts of the info from that broken link to military school admissions at findmypast
http://www.findmypast.co.uk/articles/world-records/full-list-of-united-kingdom-records/education-and-work-records/royal-hibernian-military-school-admissions-1847-1932
But I also found the original I think
Here a link to a copy in my dropbox in cas eit goes missing again
https://www.dropbox.com/s/9mjff56wobff8i5/40th%20Regt.pdf?dl=0
and the website for the other regiments

Hi there. I had a look for David Boast but couldn't find him from a quick look-through. However, some of the muster rolls were difficult to read and I had to guess at names. Also, I've had to miss some out that were completely illegible. The men I've listed didn't get promoted up until about 1846 so I'll have another look later at sergeants. The nearest is Francis Boast but he died in 1841 so it couldn't be him that you're looking for. I'll take a look at the links you've provided as I know I'll find them really interesting and thanks for posting them.
Private 1032 Francis Boyd [Boast] Spent time in hospital, died 1841 aged 23
Private 1112 David Booker Spent time in hospital, volunteered 31st Foot 1844
Private 1301 David Bright Spent time in hospital, volunteered 28th Foot 1844
Private David Brook Enlisted 1827
Private David Byers Spent time in hospital
Cheers

Hi MummyG
I had a look at your drop-box and I’ve got some information for Robert Bridden, if, indeed, it’s the same person!
Private 1693 Robert Bridden was a recruit arrived at Karachi from England on 16 April 1842. The regiment had set off towards Kabul leaving the sick who were holed up in the Citadel surrounded by rebel forces and Robert would have helped to protect them. He set off with the recruits to catch up with the regiment in December 1842. He took part in the battle at Maharajpur in December 1843. He was promoted to Corporal sometime between July and September 1844.
Cheers
DiGi

Thanks for looking. I'm so sorry but made a mistake, it was his son who joined the 40th (so later years) David Boast was 95th Regiment. Memory is not keeping up with all this research ::)
So glad that info I posted was useful to you though.
