Title: dixons of doynton
Post by: hikerchick on Tuesday 13 July 10 16:39 BST (UK)
Trying to trace the maiden name of the wife of  George Dixon born in 1811 in Doynton Glos.  Her first name was Hannah think she was born in 1812 in Hinton Glos.  We have spent months trying to figure this out.
If anyone can help would be really grateful.

Thank you Carole for responding.  we have one of the birth certificates i think its for George, and it has Hannahs name as being Baker.  We found one Hannah Baker but the dates dont tie up for her birth.  Also we cant find a Hannah Baker anywhere.  We are actually interested in William and finding his birth certificate, but havent been able to get the correct one.  William is my great grandfather.
thank you once again for responding

Hi

This is your request

But you now say you already know her maiden name was Baker.  If that's what it says on the birth cert - then Baker was her maiden name

Birth certificates were only introduced from 1.7.1837.  Births prior to that date were in the form of baptismal entries in parish registers if and when the child was baptised - although not all were

In 1841 - ages from 16yrs upwards were rounded down to the nearest 5yrs.  George is shown as 30 but could be up to 34yrs old

You will notice that Hannah is 25 in 1841 but 39 in 1851 and 49 in 1861 so her birthyear is around 1812

You can't assume that George was born in Doynton just because he was living there in 1841 - the entry only shows a Y against his name as an indication that he was born in the county of Gloucester

Maybe i should have worded my message a little differently.  We are not sure if we had the correct person.  Thank you for the information

There is a tree on Ancestry with the above couple - which states a son William was christened 31 January 1819 at Bristol St Michael (born Wick on Census returns) and by 1871 William Snr is living with the family in Bristol, a retired farmer born Wick.
