Title: CHILE arrival from uk
Post by: animalgirl on Wednesday 14 July 10 20:33 BST (UK)
I have been trying to find out when William Archibald Bate arrived in Chile from England. I know he was living in the uk in 1851 as I have him on the census for that year. He was in Coquimo Chile in 1861 as I have it written in an ancestors journal. Is there any way of knowing when he arrived? He was the brother of Thomas William Bate a doctor with the Chilean Navy.

Hi:
Just found your "chat" in Rootschat. I think names have been mixed up between these two brothers. If you don't read Spanish I'll do a translation for you. Use of an on line translator might prove faster :)). If interested, I'll keep on working on this subject.

"Thomas William Archibald Bate, nacido y titulado en Londres, contratado por la Armada chilena en 1853, donde se desempeñó hasta 1871, tras lo cual se arraigó en Valparaíso, ejerciendo como profesor de inglés en la Escuela Naval.

thanks for your help, since the time of my posting there have been more developments and you are correct with the confusion of the two brother's names. I am still interested in when William Archibald arrived in Chile, and if you come accross any information I would be thankful.  :D
