Hi, I know gladys was born in 1894 in staffordshire. her mother is emma and father is thomas.
She married william broomhall - they were married in 1925 in wolverhampton, staffordshire. I believe williams father was also called william. I'm trying to find further information regarding him.
if anyone can give me more info that'd be great as i am stuck. Thank you, Becky :-)

From the 1925 marriage certificate - how old was William Jnr? And what was William Snr's occupation?

There are 5 William Broomhalls on 1901 census. Two with father William, one married, one a 12 year old inmate BUT this one the only one in Staffs.

Would the marriage certificate show Williams' DOB or age when he got married, as this could confirm if this is the correct William?! If so how do you go about ordering one? (and how much do you pay :) )

The marriage certificate will give the bride and groom's ages at marriage. Just have to hope they told the truth! It will also give you the names and occupations of the fathers of the bride and groom and the occupation of the groom.

In this case i would just put in the grooms name as there are two entries for Gladys - one with her name as Hartshorne and the other as Hartshorme.
The details are William H Broomhall Sept 1/4 1925 Reg District Wolverhampton vol 6b page 123 but check on FreeBMD to make sure.
The cost went up last April and is now 9 pound 25 I think. It will tell you on the GRO site.

I've now received the marriage certificate of William Henry Broomhall and Gladys Hartshorne. William was a stamper (runs in the family as my dad is also a stamper); his father is noted as Frederick Broomhall a foreman. They lived at 72 Walsall Road. The marriage was in the presence of Louise Hartshorne (which is Gladys sister) and George Frederick Broomhall (maybe his brother?!) I have been searching the 1901 census and can't find a frederick or George frederick anywhere that matches up. Can anyone help? Many thanks :-)

What is William's age on the marriage certificate?
I also think that the William age 9 in 1901 family I posted earlier is actually William Hezekiah. See FreeBMD.
FreeBMD has a birth registration for a William Henry Broomhall Sept 1/4 1905 Wolverhampton vol 6b page 670
which would make him age 20 when he and Gladys married.

William was aged 20. Gladys was aged 19. Marriage was August 16th 1925.

Ok then he has to be the William Henry born 1905 posted above. There is only one problem with that, in 1911 he is with his grandparents Henry and Sarah and tracing them back through the censuses to 1881 census they do not have a child called Frederick. They do have a Haydon who is William Hayden in 1901 born 1897 but he would be too young. This family also do not have a George in the family. Bah!
Of course buying the birth cert would solve the problem. It would definitely give his mother's name and hopefully his father's name if he is not illegitimate.
I will have to leave it for a little while but will look again later. meanwhile someone else may come up with something :)

Searching for a George Frederick Broomhall birth on FreeBMD in Staffordshire and leaving the dates open only this one came up

But how to connect him to William Henry.

I can't find George Frederick Broomhall after his birth in 1903 apart from this possible marriage and death records.
Death registered June 1/4 1970 Wetsern Super Mare Somerset date of birth 28 April 1903 vol 7c page 1349
Possible marriage to Annie Goodwin Sept 1/4 1933 Wo;verhampton 6b page 1366

Hello sorry to jump onto your post. Iv just been read and the name William hezekiah bromhall was mentioned. Iv found out he is my great granddad also from Wolverhampton. He married Elizabeth Ann Iv been to there grave today. I'm looking for more information about them. Can you help me out at all ? Bromhall isn't a common name we may be related lol. Hello there, thanks for your reply. I later found that the William I was looking for was William Henry, so I don't think it was the same one. But like you say Broomhall isn't that common and the further I go back with the Willenhall/Wolverhampton Broomhall's the more I find that link back to each other, so we could well be related lol.

My great grandfather William hezekiah bromhall is from Wolverhampton ( where I still live ) went to the grave today and it's that old there is no information on it. Just really interested in finding out more. Most websites cost a fortune. Thanks for your quick reply.
