missmilly,  Catherine H JOHNSTON wife of John W. AULD  Lindean Farm died 12-9-1955 aged 56  and is buried in Shawfield Cemetery. No trace John in any Selkirk cemetery.Suggest you get her birth ,Marriage and death cert for all the answers.

Lindean Farmhouse is evidently still in existence. If you Google it you'll find it is currently the Selkirk office for Cancer UK with a map showing its location.

Hi , Thanks for the information so far.
I have found out  John William Auld was born 26-02 1899 & died in hospital of throat cancer in 1965 but can not find a date. John is said to have had a shop in Edinburgh  sometime after 1955 but I do not know what sort of shop. He was cremated so I need some help to find where his ashes ended up.
John & Catherine Hunter Johnstone married in 1922 on 22nd February, again I can not find out where.
Also would anyone have any idea as to why Catherine had not taken the name Auld ? ???

Hello again, I have some more information on great grandparents and would now like to find how many children they may have had and who they were ect. Please  can somebody point me in the right direction so I don't waste more credits looking in the wrong places.
So far I have:
John William Auld married Catherine Hunter Johnstone????
Thomas Auld married Marion Denholm Young at Cramond in 1891(05 June)?
Thomas Auld married Ann Leitch in Bathgate in 1963(20 March)?
Thomas Auld married Elizabeth McKenzie in Colinton 1837 (09 June)? 2nd marriage.

Any information on these people and there offspring would be very much appreciated, or any clues as to where to look for them.
Many thanks in hope.

Hi,
Going back to the one before this if you know where your grandfather died in 1965 and if it was Edinburgh it should be easy enough to find where his actual cremation took place as these are the crematoriums in the area.
Mortonhall, Seafield and Warriston.

Good luck with your research.

Were you able to confirm that the marriage to Marion Denholm Young in 1891 is your family?

The Denholms and the Youngs were from Broomrig in Dumfries (according to Horse Tax rolls etc) - the Youngs were of Gullyhill/Gulliehill.

Miss Milly  Sometime last month i noticed a death in the local paper for an AULD from Lindean. Maybe the local undertaker LOWs in Selkirk could help.

Hello alan14578.
Thank you so much for your information. I do know of this death, it was my uncle David Auld.
He was the first one of my new found relatives that I met when I started my family search, he was my late fathers youngest brother. David lived in Macmerry and we have been up to Scotland to visit him as often as possible. I also have met up with uncles Tom and George and Aunties Margaret and Betty plus six cousins. I have visited my grandmothers grave and have found the memorial grave of my great grandparents and their two sons killed in ww1.
For the record, David Auld is now rests in Gladsmuir cemetary
Thanks to Rootschat and kind folk like yourself I now know a lot more of my family history.
Thank you again for your post
Kind regards
Miss milly

Miss Milly, glad you managed to get your family history sorted out. I was interested in Gladsmuir as i have my Turnbull tree and bible starting in 1841 at Gladsmuir when they/got married. However the first census in 1841 showed he was born in Caithnessshire Wick and over the past 30yrs i have never found his birth certificate so i cant get beyond it.I think i found the family who were local at Haddington got married  at Leith had chidren there then Caithness and later back at Haddington but without proof its only guessing.
Was you family originally from Gladsmuir?
cheers
