HI,
I have a photo of my gr-grandfather. He's wearing a couple of medals. He's also wearing something acros his chest (don't know what i't's called in english) and I think the text on it says Knights Chillingham Chapter. Or is it Gillingham?
He also wearing something on his belly which says K O M.
Can anyone tell me what these things mean?
Thank you.

K O M could be Knights of Malta. It could be a Sash that he is wearing across his chest.

It looks like Gillingham to me,try posting on the photo or recognition board where it might get a wider viewing.

He is wearing what looks like a Freemasons Apron.

I see on the new thread you've started http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,474616.msg3340786.html#msg3340786
that you say he died in Kent, which makes Gillingham more likely.

I'd say it's the Knights of Malta - and he's wearing a Maltese Cross around his neck.

Hi,
So probably he's a member of the Knights of Malta (Freemason?).
What are the medals for?
Thank you all so far for al the information.

Hi DMM,
Not the Freemasons, but a similar idea - a fraternal society. Here is their official website:

I reckon it is the Gillingham lodge/chapter of the freemasons.
K.O.M - Knight Order of Merit.

Go to www.kent-templars.info
hopefully that's the one!

As a member I am an active member of the RAOB this sash and apron represent the Gillingham Knights Chapter. The Brother as he would be called is a Knight Order of Merit
