Hi All
I'm trying to find information on the wife of Frederick Boswell, Charlotte. I don't have any info on Charlotte except she was born about 1838 in Howe, Radnorshire, and in 1891 lived in a Gypsy caravan with her extended family in Merthyr Tydfil. This from the 1891 census.
Problem is, I can't find any reference to Howe anywhere! Is it known by a differant name now, or maybe it's now part of another town?
If anyone has any ideas where Howe is/was please post! Thanks a lot.

Howe could refer to Howey, a small village just south of Llandrindod Wells
Hope this is of help

That sounds like a possibility, thanks.

Hello
If the family were in Merthyr in 1891, this may be them in 1881 at 69 Brecon Road Tydfilwell, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan:
Frederick Boswell Head Age 80 born Burslem, Staffordshire Cutter & Grinder
Charlotte Boswell Wife Age 63 born Builth Machinist (Seamstress)
Lloyd Roberts Son In Law Age 24 born Builth, Brecknock Milkseller
Annie Roberts Daur Age 23 born Neath, Glamorgan Housekeeper
Maria Boswell Daur Age 8 born Wellington, Shropshire
RG11 Piece 5317 Folio 91 Page 6
I know Charlotte's age is 20 years older but Builth is only about 6 miles from Howey so the places match.
Best Wishes

Hi Morgan
Thanks for your post. I think we've traced Frederick back to the 1841 census, and it looks like we've got Lloyd and Annie living in Aston in 1901.
So Howey is a real place then? I haven't been able to find any info on it. Perhaps it's been subsumed by somewhere else?

Quote: "Before the railway came to Llandrindod, the address of dwellings in Llandrindod parish was 'Near Howey' because Howey was the larger settlement."
Here's the BBC page on nearby Llandrindod Wells:
