Title: Hanson/Crowther
Post by: Claire on Wednesday 26 May 04 06:44 BST (UK)
I am trying to find the marriage of Hannah Crowther to David Hanson.  Hannah was borth in 1823 in Rothwell, Leeds and her children have the father David Hanson on their birth/marriage certificates.  I have tried all the marriage certificates for Hannah Crowther between 1843 and 1851 for Leeds and Hunslet with no luck.   I'm not sure where to go from here and would be grateful for any help.

Hi there,

My first thought is to extend the year range.  You are only looking from when she would have been 20.  It was not unusual to have married much earlier.  Not sure what the legal date was at this period,  but it would have been earlier than 20.

Hi Claire and Kazza

You may be surprised to know, but Prior to 1929
Marriages could be contracted by:

Boys from the age of 14
Girls from the age of 12

Provided they had parent or guardian's permission

Hi Chris,

I knew you would know.   :D

This bears out my point,  looking from only 20 years old for a marriage is not going to catch them all.
