Has anyone out there come across a Henry Mariot/Marryat HOARE? He married a Hilda Rosetta JARRETT in 1914 in Adelaide, South Australia. His father's given name is Frank, but apart from that, and the name of his children, I can't seem to find anything about him. Thanks for any help Completed

My understanding was that he was a ganger on the wharves. I don't know if this was an industry that was exempt from WW1 service.

Thanks guys, yes you have helped. I only ever had basic information about him. He's not closely related to me, he married my Gt Grandmother, Hilda. As Hilda appears to have multiple partners, I am trying to piece together information about her through roundabout sources. Any information on any of her partners all adds to her story. Once again thanks :)

However there is this birth but there was no marriage as William Charles DEGENHARDT was already married to a May Elizabeth FLANAGAN on 26 Aug 1902. He was aged 20 and his bride 18. First birth to this couple 1902 and 2nd 1905 and then the following in the 1904 to your Hilda -

Hilda died as a HOARE to there were no other marriages.
There are three births to Hilda and Henry HOARE which you would have but I will pm the registrations as there is a possibility they may be living. I notice that there is also one birth to the MATHEWS/JARRETT couple and perhaps someone has assumed that this is your Hilda Rosetta JARRETT.

I am related to Jarrett's by marriage BUT I also own the house where Hilda was born :-) that was built for her parents Maria nee Hawke and Peter.

Henry Marriott Hoare was born Henry Marriott Smith on 31.7.1887 to Henry Smith and Ellen Smith (nee Buckley), in Richmond Victoria. He was named Marriott after his paternal grand-mother's maiden name. After his mother divorced his father, she entered a relationship with Frank Hoare and they moved to Adelaide. I am unaware if they ever married. After they moved to Adelaide, South Aust. Ellen and the 3 children changed their name to Hoare.
Henry and Ellen had 3 children: Anne Florence Glover Smith b 13.3.1884, William Walter Smith b 22.6.1885 and Henry Marriott Smith.
Henry married Hilda Rosetta Jarrett on 23.9.1914 at the Registry Office Adelaide. Her father was Peter Jarrett.
They, together with their son Harry are buried in the Cheltenham Cemetery, Adelaide. He died on 26.10.1947, Hilda on 25.9.1980 and Harry on 15.10.1953.

Sadly there is likely no memorial stone now for the Hoare's at Cheltenham Cemetery. The Cemetery reuses graves and unless the family has paid for renewal the graves would have been reused with the remains placed lower and others buried over them.
