Title: British Columbia Death: Chapell -- finished; thanks!!
Post by: alphabetsoupstudio on Sunday 22 August 10 20:55 BST (UK)
I have just started my family tree research and have hit a snag. I would be extremely grateful for a lookup of a death in Surrey BC, 1974, for Alice Cooper Chapel, died 1974 8 4, aged 57. I am hoping this listing will be key to find out who Alice married (although I believe she was widowed at her time of death) and if she had children. Maybe even her parents' names? I do not know as I have never seen such a document before. I am in my infancy in family tree research!

Here are the details:
Reg. # 1974-09-012453
Microfilm: B13333 (GSU # 2050337)

Even an obituary/death notice from the Vancouver/Sun Province would be helpful, if one was ever published, that is.  :)

Thanks for any assistance!

Lennie,

This site has more information transcribed from the BC vital statiscs.  If you use the Home button, top right, you can get to the start page and search further.

Thank you! That did indeed confirm who Alice's husband was, and that fits another piece of the puzzle in place! How cool is that  :)

Now if I could only find some way of knowing if Alice and George had any children.........would the actual death registration show that, does anyone think?

I am doing a happy dance that this is coming together!!

cheers,
Lennie

There is a member who regularly offers to do further lookups at a BC library.  I'm sure she will notice this and offer to do so for you.  I would image that George would be the informant on his wife's death registration but you might get lucky on his from 1969.

Archived obituaries from BC but wouldn't cover the years for the parents but perhaps their children.

George's parents deaths are also on the same reference page, George Edward and Lily.

Alice's parents deaths are also found in the BC records.

This is probably Alice's arrival in Canada.
On the ship Scandanavian sailing from Liverpool, arriving St. John NB April 9, 1920.
Alice Cooper, 30, b. Scotland, travelling to husband Jas. Hay at either 424 or 724 Keefer St. Vancouver, Presbyterian with 3 year old Alice and 1 year old Florence both born Scotland

Debbie, thank you so much for all your help. I did have the record of the older Alice coming across the ocean with her two little ones including young Alice, but until today had never been able to confirm that "that little Alice" was the same Alice who married George Edward Jr.  ;D

I will now go on to find Alice's parents' death info......

Thanks again, I have discovered so much in a short time!!

Cheers,
Lennie

Hi Lennie

I live in BC and regularly visit the family history society library 2 or 3 times per month.  I would be more than willing to look up any or all of the death registrations for you.  Just let me know which ones you would like.

The BC death registrations contain a lot of information but unfortunately they do not list the children.  But sometimes you get lucky and a child is the informant and can help you trace another generation.

Cheers,
Susan

Susan, thank you so much! You are so right about the "informant" being a good possibility, and with Alice dying after George, I guess that is my best hope. At your convenience, I would appreciate if you could look her death registration up (the info is in my first posting here). No rush  :)

I can't believe what I have learned in such a short time and how friendly and helpful everyone has been!!

cheers,
Lennie

Hi Lennie

I'll post once I've had a chance to get to the libary.

Yes, the people on Rootschat are pretty amazing!!  I've had lots of help and advice and now I'm trying to pay it forward by doing look-ups when I can.  Besides, when I'm not making any headway with my own research, it's nice to be able to help others find some of the missing pieces to their puzzles....LOL!!
