Im looking for someone to do a look-up for a James Linton Kay ,died in Dunedin,New Zealand.
James died 30th January 1997,he is buried in Anderson Bay Cemetery,age 80yrs.
Im trying to see if he is the same James Linton Kay from my family.The only way i can find this out is if i can get someone to look up a death certificate in New Zealand.
Im in Scotland and my James was born here and i was told he immigrated to New Zealand.I managed to find out the James that is in Anderson Bay Cemetery has lived in NZ for at least 50 yrs and 30 of them was spent with the woman who he was buried with a Evelyn Christina Engstrom. The only way to confirm if he is my relative is through the death certificate.My James was born April 1916 in Lumphinnans,Fife,Scotland

You would have to order the death printout to get the info you need,we are unable to view records here in NZ.

Thanks for your help.I searched for James and he was the only one listed.It must be him they have same date of birth and middle name ,so ive sent away for the print out.

Thanks ,i was given the cemetery information that you posted from a roots member and it was this that helped me along the way to finding my dad's Uncle James.I dont suppose you know of anyone that could take some picture's of the cemetery plot for me?

Hi Janette and Althea,
I emailed the cemetery in Anderson Bay and they mailed back saying they will take the pictures for me and send them via email.So kind of them to do this for me.

We don't often thing to ask the cemetery folk direct
Maybe worth trying in other areas, it would encourage them maybe to build up this resource

Hi ,
i recieved the photo's next day after speaking to Jenny Dryburgh from Dunedin Council. Jenny contacted the cemetery about my request and they kindly took them for me.It would be a great idea to start a resource base for photo's .We have people in Scotland that are visiting cemeteries and putting all the gravestones and inscriptions on cd for anyone to purchase at a small price.They are also asking for requests of cemeteries that have not been photographed.Considering the amount of time and travelling involved payment is perfectly reasonable.

James Linton Kay lived with my grandmother from 1956 onwards. My father caught his mother and Jock in bed one day when he came home, in 1951, then he left and went and lived with some people down the road. (My dad that is). Jock was living in the hills around Roxburgh at the time. He had jumped ship in Dunedin so was therefore illegally in NZ. My grandparents separated in 1956 and Jock and Grandma moved to Dunedin. One of the stories we heard was that Jock had to leave Scotland to escape prosecution for beating up his mother. I can tell you lots of other stories about him. I was 40 years old when he died at the hospice in Dunedin. He had no children. We would like to know more of where he came from to put in our family tree as he was part of our lives.

Hi Lilian .i had messaged you privately about the story about James Linton Kay that i read here ,with no reply .Could you, if you see this give me some more information so i can try and find any records of the alleged assault on my great grandmother , his brothers who was in the Metropolitan Police never even mentioned this ,so im trying to find the evidence to confirm this through records .Thanks

I think most would take from that comment that you had sent a private message on RootsChat and not other social media ::) ::).Lillian may not have found your message if it is on FB as they often go to "other folder"

Hello, have been just doing some more research to update our family tree on Dad's side as Dad passed away two years ago and I still find it difficult to deal with that. Just read about how I am supposed to reply three times so her is number 2. Cheers, Lillian

Number three! Have got a new iPad and have attached roots chat so hopefully will be able to reply to quite a few people if the Internet stays connected. There have been a few problems lately with it but the company is coming out to us this week sometime to check what is happening. Hope to gear from you soon!
