My 3XG Grandmother was apparently born in St Helier Jersey circa 1826 (according to the 1861 census in London).
Her name is Ellen Sewell.
Is this something that someone could lookup for me???
Many thanks

Theresa -
I had a look in St Helier Parish church baptisms 1824-1829, but regret I couldn't find her.
She is not in the 1851 census index under Sewell for Jersey either. Was she married by then?
Sorry.
Have you searched the 1841 Jersey census at http://members.shaw.ca/jerseymaid/index.html ?

Thank you both for the info. The family in the 1871 census may be a relation.
The only information that I do know is she married my 3g grandfather Henry Garton in Chelsea in 1853, they both appear in the 1861 census in Marylebone with her place of birth being St Helier Jersey, aged 36.
From this census (I am presuming) that she had 2 children out of wedlock both born in Torquay Devon. I wonder if it is possible that she was christened there (but born in Jersey?) ???
Thanks to you both for your help - much appreciated. :)
