H.M. Submarine Odin was sunk in the Gulf of Taranto by Italian destroyers Strale and Baleno on 14 June 1940. All of the crew died in the sinking.
Bearing in mind the entire crew died on 14 June 1940 why does the CWGC give their date of death as 27 June 1940?

I suspect that the date of death given by the CWGC is the date that the submarine was finally posted as missing.
There is little doubt that HMS ODIN was lost on June/14/1940.
Send CWGC an email and see what they have to say.

Your suggestion may be correct.
The Times did not report the loss of the submarine until 12 August 1940:
'H.M.S. Odin Presumed Lost - Submarine Overdue
The Secretary of the Admiralty regrets to announce that H.M. submarine Odin ...... is considerably overdue and must be presumed lost. The next-of-kin have been informed. ......'
The issue is, therefore, one of whether the dates of death should or can be corrected to reflect subsequent information that the crew died on 14 June 1940. Does anyone know whether this is possible?

They are open to discussions like this, although sometimes it takes them an age to respond ;)

You also have the advantage of precedence - three of the casualties are already listed as having died on the 14th:
EDWARDS D/KX 80520
KAVANAGH P/KX 83094
ROBSON C/JX 146536
So the CWGC may well be willing to change the rest of the crew.

Just wondered whether the cwgc were contacted about this??????? My grandfather, E.G chaplain stoker on the odin. The letter too my nan, said he was missing in action from the 27th June 1940. That's when it was officially lost.
My heart went over, at the above paragraph, 'next of kin informed'.

As far as I can tell. No. Your Grandfather is recorded by CWGC as having died on 27/June/1940.
Perhaps you should take up this issue with them.
