Hi, I'm researching my "Vipond" roots. I know my gr.-gr.-gr.-great grandfather's name is Isaac Vipond born in Alston, Cumberland in 1787, he married Elizabeth Salkeld on 14 July 1808. Is there anyway to get a copy of a marriage certificate or a copy of the mariagergistration or whatever. I'm just trying to confirm information and find something that will let m go further back.
Thank you :)

Hi,
Another well known site is full of family trees with this couple. His parents are down as Isaac Vipond & Hannah Bell. Have you tried to contact anyone else researching this family as there seem to be lots of them about. Most of the trees have sources so maybe someone will be willing to pass on their information.
Sharon
Have yet to come across Viponds in my Salkeld line but you never know.

Have you been in contact with the person who has a Tree on Ancestry for this Isaac?
They have Isaacs Parents as;
ISAAC Vipond, died 1812
Hannah BELL, 1760-1830
Familysearch Pilot has a Marriage of Isaac VIPOND/Hannah BELL, 10 April 1781, St John, Garrigall, Cumberland.
Details on Isaac Jnr are;
Christened 21 May 1783, Carrigall to Isaac and Hannah
Died 01 January 1854, Hudson, Vaudreuil County, Canada
Emigrated to Canada 1830 with Wife and 8 Children
(There is a Christening of that date on Familysearch Pilot)
Trish :)

The following info. coincided with what I have:
ISAAC VIPOND
Marriages:
Spouse: ELIZ SALKELD
Marriage: 14 JUL 1808 Alston, Cumberland, England
The christening (May 1783) doesn't match as I have his birth year down as 1787. Althoug maybe my info is wrong. I find this so confusing at times as the viponds all have the same names. Isaac had Isaac who had Isaac and then there are a couple of Ralphs in a row. Plus I'm researching the other side (grammas) at the same time.
Bit Iam very appreciative of the help I hav bee given here!! Thanks
-
Also, how do I contact people researching the same surname? I'm new to this. Thanks

There appears to be one other person with an interest in VIPONDs http://surname.rootschat.com/sit-surnames.php?letter=V&this_name=VIPOND&lang=EN
It looks as if she hasn't posted recently, but you can try sending her a "Personal Message" http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=87134

Hi
In my records I have Elizabeth Salkeld as being born 1781 but baptised 21 Jun 1883, Addingham Cumberland the daughter of Joseph Salkeld and Mary (nee Watson).
The Will of Ann Watson of Gamblesby, Cumberland dated 26 Feb 1823, the sister of Mary Watson.
In her Will Ann mentions her nephews John Salkeld, Johnathon Salkeld, Benjamin Salkeld and George Salkeld all siblings of Elizabeth Vipond (nee Salkeld).
also " I give and bequeath to my niece Elizabeth Vipond the wife of Issac Vipond one annuity or clear yearly sum of four pounds per annum for her own seperate use to be paid to her quarterly during her natural life without being subject to the debts or control of her said husband. I also give to my said niece Elizabeth the wife of said Issac Vipond for her seperate use my kitchen table, Long Lettle? Clock, white Feather Bed Mattress, Bedstead Hangings, two pair blankets, two feather bolsters, Cupboard, Little round table, tea board, and all my wearing apparel and four quills. Also I give and bequeath to Issac Vipond son of my niece Elizabeth Vipond the bed he now sleeps on as it stands"
It is a very long time since I looked at this Salkeld family I hope the will extract will be of interest is this not the Vipond family that ran a steam grist mill in Lancaster County, Ontario. Joseph Salkeld a relation of Elizabeth Vipond helped the family set the steam mill up. Joseph Salkeld must have been quite a good engineer in the 1851 Census for Shildon, County Durham he can be found apprenticed to John Hackworth a member of the famous Hackworth family perhaps.
Hope this helps your research

You need to look at the prime source of the marriage entry, i.e the Parisdh Register to see who the witnesses were ( most probably Church Official, whether the marriage was by Basnns or Licenses if the latter you would need to find!
Check out CumbriA fhs as I am sure one of the members wrote about her family VIPONDS!
