Title: WILSON WALES/MATILDA WOODHALL
Post by: WHATATREE on Wednesday 15 September 10 14:25 BST (UK)
Hi,
I hope you can help!
I am trying to find any information about Wilson Wales born 1917 Gateshead died 1975, Matilda Woodhall born 1922 Sunderland died 1982. They married 1943 and lived in the Old Fold area of Gateshead. As far as I know Matilda never had contact with her family after her marriage to Wilson but don't know why?? Her mother s maiden name was Anderson.
 Many Thanks
Andrea

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

A good starting point is a website called freebmd www.freebmd.org.uk where you will find both their birth registrations

However - there are 2 entries for Wilson Wales in 1917 and both in Gateshead

I checked his death reg and your Wilson was b 12.6.1917 so this is the right entry

Births September qtr 1917

Wilson Wales  mothers maiden name Hindmarch  Gateshead  10a 1575

Births September qtr 1922

Matilda Woodhall  mmn Anderson  Sunderland  10a 1408

This is the only Woodhall/Anderson I can find that would fit with Matilda's birthyear

Thomas A Woodhall / Margaret Anderson  December qtr 1918   Newcastle-Upon-Tyne  10b  317

Wilson's parents marriage was March qtr 1905 William Gladstone Wales/Isabella Hindmarch Gateshead 10A 1017

Births December qtr 1885

William Gladstone Wales    Gateshead  10a 791

There are a couple of possible births for Isabella but I think this may be the likeliest

Births September qtr 1884

Isabella Hindmarch  Gateshead  10a 932

As they married before the 1911 census - you should be able to find them on the free index - see instructions below

USING THE FREE 1911 INDEX TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT HOUSEHOLD

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

Once you find a possible match - make a note of the county and district in which the person was living

Return to the index and in PERSONAL DETAILS - just put the surname of the family - nothing else

In LOCATION - Select the county and below it - type in the district

In OTHER MEMBERS OF THE HOUSEHOLD - show the full name of the person you have found on the index

Click SEARCH

You will have to buy credits to view the full entry which will give you their respective birthplaces - the above instructions will only help to possibly show others of the same name in the same household

This is (I think) the 1891 census entry for Wilson's father - William Wales - Plawsworth Durham

Charles Wales 35 coalminer b somewhere in Essex need to check the 1901
Sarah   30 b Eggmouth Cumberland
William  6 b Durham
Elizabeth 10 b Broom Park
Jonathan Bowerbank 22 brother in law coalminer b Crook

There are a couple of possible 1891 entries for Isabella so you would need to establish her parents names first

Wilson Wales forms part of my research.  Am new member so only just seen your post.  Wilson was known as Wilsie.  His father William Gladstone Wales passed away 26/12/1933 he had bronchitis.  He had been living at 28 Mulgrave Terrace Gateshead which is no longer there.

Thanks for your message.  My father Albert Edward had a brother Wilsie and their mother was Isabella Wales nee Hindmarch.  I have been researching the Wales family for quite a while.

Hi Stilldetecting,
Wow what a surprise!
I have to say I don't know anything about the Wales family as my Dad has died and I have only a few memories of Wilsie so any information would be a great help! Do you remember Wilsie Millie or their children?
Regards
Andrea

Good to hear from you Andrea.  Will dig out my Wales records and let you have info as soon as possible.  I only vaguely remember Wilsie himself but I do remember the other brothers and sister.  I remember him living at Old Fold in Gateshead.  Brothers as I can remember were Willie, Josh, Jim, I think there was a John but not sure and Dorothy (Dolly) the only sister.

That is right they did live in Old Fold he also died there, Wilson and Matilda had 3 boys and a girl (Dorothy) but died as an infant. I do remember that there was a relative of Wilsie possibly lived in Park Road, Gateshead.
Hope to hear from you soon
Regards
Andrea
