I've been looking for the death of an Esther Fanning (she was in her late 20's I think) between the 1901 census and the 1911 census. Would anybody be willing to search the records for me or even tell me how I can do it online?
They lived at Summerhill, Mountjoy, Dublin on the 1901 census.

The Irish Civil BMD Index is available on line on familysearch - see : Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html)

If you check the civil registration index you'll see there's only 1 Esther Fanning death between those years and it is in Dublin North.

Wow that's brilliant it has now solved the family mystery that we've all been looking for for 50 years.
Words can't express my gratitude. I'll send for the certificate now.

Apart from the gobbledygook which made it difficult to read how can I register a death that happened 109 years ago?
Help where so I go from here?

what details did you include with your order to the GRO ?
Shane

I gave them name, age and address and I gave an approximate date in April because you couldn't put the 2nd quarter 1901.

The best way to order certs is using the references from the BMD Index. These are the index details that fit the possible death which aghadowey mentioned earlier : :
Name: Esther Fanning
Registration District: Dublin North
Event Type: Death
Quarter and Year: Apr - Jun 1901
Age : 21
volume : 2 / page : 443
see : Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,433040.0.html)

Thanks Shane
I think I know why now I've gone back to the website and looked properly. I was ordering online using my credit card but if you actually read the FAQ's it will only let you order death certs from 1924 onwards so I suppose I'll have to write to them and see if that works. Though goodness knows when I'll be able to get to the bank to get some Euro's.
I had written the death in the additional info box but obviously they looked at the 1924 date in the box above.
I'll get there in the end I hope.

You can fax the order to the GRO in Roscommon with your credit card details on it. I've done it lots of times. Their form is badly designed for researching, it's set up for living people. Make sure to include the details Shane mentions above and you'll be fine.

I hadn't thought of faxing it thanks for the idea. :)
