Title: Attewell - Enborne
Post by: sussexpoacher on Friday 24 September 10 13:24 BST (UK)
Hi

I am looking for information on Thomas Attewell born c.1780 who resided in Enborne.  Ideally I am looking for where he was born, year of birth, parents and siblings.  His wife was Jane, unsure of maiden name but she was born in 1779 in Great Coxwell, which was in Berks but I believe is now in Oxon, again looking for info on her.  They had 6 children all born in Enborne.

I am aware there is Attewell's in Wantage, maybe there's a connection but I can't seem to establish it.

The surname in the parish records is also spelt Attiwell and Atwell.

Appreciate any info or guidance anyone can offer.

Hi,
I thought for one moment I had found their marriage you were looking for, but this one was by licence in 1759 Thomas Ettwell to Jane Pound in Bishops Cannings (Horton) Wilts. a few parishes away from Enborne.

However, you have several choices regarding baptisms;
Uffington PRs (ex OFHS)
16-11-1788 Thomas Etwell (aged 10 weeks) s/o Joseph & Sarah (Smith), Woolstone.

Fyfield;
4-5-1780 Thomas Atawill s/o Thomas & Ann - Tubney

Thanks for your response Alan

Sadly I don't think either apply in my case.

The former is too late as Thomas & Jane had their first child in 1798 in Enborne whilst the latter I think married Mary Barrett in Fyfield in 1806.

Really appreciate you looking in to this for me though.

Stephen

I have researched my Enborne Ancestors and found many of them in the parish of Hampstead Marshall - the two villages seem very closely linked so might be worth you looking there for some clues.

All the best

Monique

Hi, Stephen,

Your email address in your last posting does not connect.   If you marry austin.attewell with hotmail.co.uk it might work that way round!  MUST get in contact somehow.

William,
You can contact Sussexpoacher direct from this site to exchange email addresses. Click on the green scroll next to the name of the person and a new page comes up. You need to have posted a few messages on the main site before this facility becomes available to you.
Good luck with contacting.  I have an Attwell family in Enborne but they don't appear to be linked. My Thomas Attwell was married to an Elizabeth with son Daniel.

Yours
Vicwinann

Vicwinann - your Enborne Attewell is connected to mine. Thomas & Jane’s son was also Thomas, he married Elizabeth Franklin and one of their children was Daniel, your ancestor, another of their children was Frederick, my ancestor
