Hi, just wondering if anyone has info? They are my great grandparents, from Carriden. I'm having trouble getting further back. Thanks!
-
Hi
We need christian names, birthyears, which surname was male and which was female
What info do you already have so we don't duplicate it

Hi, sorry, am new to this! Thomas Stanners born 5.3.1848 in Carriden married Christina Mccallum (1872) who was born in 1849 and died in 1946. I think she may have come from North Knapdale. Thankyou!

Janet is shown as Williamson in 1841 - living in Borrowstounness but still no Gilbert - I suspect he was a seaman of some description
The 1841 does not show relationships and ages from 16+ are rounded down to the nearest 5yrs
Cornelius Millar 80
Elizabeth 55
Isabella 20
Janet Williamson 20
James Stanners 3
Margaret Stanners 1

Hi, Yes that info matches mine! It's the Kilmartin family that I seem to be stuck on. Christina's parents were Neil Mccallum and Julia Campbell but they are such common names in the area! There's a death certificate for Julia recording that she drowned - not sure if this is the right Julia. Neil lived to 100years I think! Thanks for your help.

oh that's confusing!! I'll try and find record of his birth. Thankyou.
-
You may be better having a look for his death as it will show his age and also his parents names
I can't find him in 1871 so he probably died between 1861-1871

Any more info on the Stanners side? I've got Stanners in my tree going back to Malcolm Stanners in the 1700s. Also try looking under Carriden parish instead of Bo'ness. Carriden, adjacent to Bo'ness, seems to be a place where the Stanners name was prevalent.
Good luck!
-
Hi, Yes there are lots of Stanners around the area! It gets confusing! Both sides of my mother's family have the Stanners name which doesn't help. Have only got back to 1837 when Gilbert Stanners m Janet Williamson. I know a lot of them are buried in Bo'ness cemetery including Christina Stanners nee Mccallum. I'm currently following her line back to Argyll. I also have the name Bell in my tree, also from Bo'ness and Carriden area. Thanks for the good luck!

Ok - if CaroleW is correct:
From GILBERT STANNERS Christening: 07 MAY 1815 Carriden, West Lothian
Father: JAMES STANNERS Mother: KATHERINE KENNEDY
We have JAMES STANNERS:
Birth: 12 FEB 1791 Grangepans, Carriden, West Lothian, Scotland
Christening: 17 FEB 1791
Death: 26 SEP 1860 Grangepans, Carriden, West Lothian, Scotland
Burial: Grangepans, Carriden, West Lothian, Scotland
Spouse: Catherine Kennedy or McDonald
Marriage: 22 JUL 1810 Grangepans, Carriden, West Lothian, Scotla

Then his father JAMES STANNERS
Birth: 15 Aug 1753 Grangepans, Carriden, West Lothian, Scot.
Marriage: Christian MCNAUGHTON
Marriage: 5 Jun 1778 Grangepans, Carriden, West Lothian, Scotland

Then his father MALCOLM STANNERS
Birth: Abt 1716 Scotland
Spouse: Agnes TAYLOR
Marriage: May 1753 Grangepans, Carriden, West Lothian, Scotland
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/af/family_group_record.asp?familyid=590554&frompage=0
From the family group you will also see that Malcolm and Agnes also had a son called Malcolm - one of his descendants married my Granny's sister.
Hope this makes sense? You will have to cross-check with Scotlandspeople to be absolutely certain mind. I've seen a lot of stuff on LDS that is inaccurate.
;)

Hi, thankyou for that info! I'll do the checks with Scotlands People.

A bt morbid but I reckon this could be one of your relations as well:
http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=609938
Apart from the obvious, it shows that Thomas and Christina were staying at Hopeton Terrace, Bo'ness in 1916.

Hi, was wondering if you know if there's a connection between these Stanners and Helen Finlay Stanners who married John Thornton Bell in 1872 in Carriden? Her father was Walter Stanners and mother was Helen Finlay - my gt gt grandparents on the Bell side. So many Stanners!!

Hi, thanks for your help - I found record of his death in 1877, age 108!

There's a Helen Stanners born on 22 NOV 1850 Carriden, West Lothian, Scotland to Walter Stanners and MARGARET Finlay on LDS. The dates are about right.
-
Thankyou, I've found them! Have found the Bo'ness pottery website very useful as they have census records if that's of any interest to you.
-
Regarding Alan Gow's comment, Helen Finlay Stanners was married to John Thompson Bell, one of the founders of Carriden Band. She was my Great Grandmother through Grandfather Alexander Bell and mother Janet Grant Bell.
-
The story , as told by my grandfather, was that the three Stanners, Walter, Neil and Malcolm came down to Bo'ness from the Glen Moriston area in the 16-1700s.
