These are my grandparents and my grandfather left my grandmother to go to england for work but never returned and at the time there was a neighbour who went after him also ended up leaving his family behind . trying to find out about him and any family members from that area . As he was not spoke of by my family he left behind 3 children all of whom had to go into foster care of which the abuse suffered was unthinkable .

Thomas & Sarah appeared to have married in Carlow in the July - Sept 1938 quarter. You might want to order a copy of their marriage cert from the GRO in Roscommon, as that will give you his and Sarah's parents names.
www.groireland.ie/
Ask for a research copy as that is cheaper than a full cert.

Thank you so much . Ann

3 children in birth index too, all born Carlow:
George P Baird 1930's
Marie C Baird July – Sept 1941
Thomas Baird 1940's
Presumably Marie & Thomas were twins

Blimey yes these are my uncles and the female would have been my aunt but sadly she died very young all i know about her is she was laid to rest maybe in an unmarked grave in bennykerry churchyard I am now on a mission to try and find out as much as possible . since my mother who was their sister she was born later in 1944 .
Sadly my mum passed away last year and the history was not spoken about . So this is great thank you

sorry for bad wording there should have said since she died

You could try a letter to the local newspaper seeking contact with anyone who has knowledge of the family. You might find some descendants alive today.

I could do that but I have one uncle still alive the eldest of their children , and he would not be too impressed with that as I have asked him to fill me in and he just freezes up. wounds go to deep for him and I just thought this way I could get helpful tips as I don't know where to start .
I am also looking for any info on my fathers side particularly my grandmother alice stynes who was born in scotland ( paisley ) and travelled to ireland with her parents micheal carroll and mary carroll of straboe co carlow . the scottish connection is what i want to look into . they had a large family 6 children I know of .

I take your point about not wanting to upset your uncle. In that case you’ll just need to try and put the pieces together from official records. I’d suggest you get Sarah & Thomas’s marriage cert. From that we may be able to work back to find their respective parents.
I had a look to see if I could see any of your relatives in the 1901/1911 Irish censuses both of which are on line:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
No trace of any Bairds in 1911 in all of Co Carlow. Only one in 1901 – Constance Baird. She was born in England. Do you think Thomas came from another county?
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Carlow/Leighlinbridge/Leighlinbridge/1043004/
6 Myers in 1901, 13 in 1911. Can’t tell if any of them are from Bennykerry as it doesn’t appear to be a townland the census recognises. You may know if any of the ones in the census might be close by. (I live in Co. Antrim and don’t know Co. Carlow well at all).
Looked also for Carroll in Co Carlow. Again not many. Only 1 in Straboe in the 1911 census:
Myles Carroll servant
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Carlow/Kinneagh/Straboe/308368/
For tracking your Scottish relatives, I think that you probably need to search Scotland’s People website
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/?gclid=CKyD2Imq0KQCFeNc4wodwDFmUA
You’ll need to pay. Scottish birth certs normally say where the parents were married which is very helpful.

Dear Ann it is some time since anyone has posted to this thread so I am not sure if/when you will read this; Your grandfather, Thomas Baird died in 2011 following complications brought on by dementia. He was working in East Anglia as a labourer in early 1944 when he was conscripted into the army, the Royal Iniskillen regiment. He fought in the North African and Italian campaigns and formed part of the allied forces occupying Austria. He had a younger brother and sister both of whom have passed away. In 1933 his father was living in Carlow when he was killed in a road accident possibly involving a post office van. As this was a second marriage their step mother sent the children away possibly to relatives in the Manchester area. Toms father worked for the Irish Lights service as had his father before him out of portaferry on the skullmartin lightship. Awareness of your family only came to light in November this year (2015) when army records were obtained. I hope this helps you and your family to piece more of the puzzle together.

I can't seem to add a photo.
There is a 'stone' in Bennykerry cemetery with the name Myres on it.
Nothing else.
In Bagenalstown cemetery there is a headstone;
James Myres-Regent st-27/4/1984
wife-Elizabeth (nee Dudley)-25/12/1988

One headstone in Tullow St Patricks cemetery;

The Bennykerry could be of interest as I know my grandmothers family lived in Rutland for a time but it's very difficult to get more info .
When I get a chance now and then I do get little bits to add to my family tree .
Thanks for you info I will pay a visit to that graveyard next time I'm home .

The headstone in Tullow with Sarah Baird on it . That one is my grandmother . My mum is also in that grave with a big carved stone on it .
