Would anyone be able to look up a Joseph Clarence Dixon in the Australia Electoral Rolls for me. Joseph was born about 1887 in Queensland, Australia and was married to a Mary, also born in Queensland, Australia. In 1913 I think the family lived in Lilley, Queensland, Australia. Any information regarding names of children, occupation, address, etc. would be very much appreciated.

Hi Karen,
The Electoral rolls only list adults in alphabetical order. I'm afraid you will have to sort out the families:
1913 Lilley, Nambour West
DIXON - Elizabeth Alice, Flaxton home duties
Eva Gertrude Chermside, Flaxton home duties
Joseph Chapman, Flaxton Farmer
Joseph Clarence, Chermside, Flaxton, farmer
Percival Arnold, Flaxton, farmer
William, Teutoberg, Labourer.
Would Joseph Chapman Dixon & Joseph Clarence Dixon be father & son?
Joseph Chapman is on earlier rolls 1903-05.

Joseph Clarence Dixon was born on the 26th November 1885. His parents were Joseph Chapman Dixon and Elizabeth Alice Fielding.

Joseph Clarence Dixon married Mary Emily Morris in 1915.
Ref = C1045
You can look up BMD indexes for Queensland at
http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/829.htm
Unfortunately Births indexes only go to 1914, so there's no way to find any children born to this couple on line. :-\

1936 Nambour Wide Bay
DIXON:
Beatrice May Flaxton home duties
Constance May, Gympie Rd, Nambour home duties
Joseph Clarence Chermside Flaxton farmer
Mary Emily Flaxton home duties
Percival Arnold Flaxton farmer.
I thought there must be some connection between those two Dee :) :)

1903 Roll at Gympie, Wide Bay lists his parents with 2 possible older sisters? He would only be 16 & too young to enrol.
DIXON:
Elizabeth Alice Young St domestic duties
Elise Jane Young St nurse
Joseph Chapman Young St Boot machinist
Olive Alice Young St shop assistant.

1905 Electoral Roll at Gympie Wide Bay is identical to the 1903 roll.

Karen, if you search the marriages on that website for Queensland BDM you'll find the marriages of Elsie Jane Dixon, Olive Alice Dixon, Eva Gertrude, and Percival Arnold Dixon.
Percival Arnold Dixon married a Beatrice May Willett in 1913, so that explains the Beatrice May Dixon on the Electoral Rolls.

Joseph Chapman Dixon does not appear to have been born in Queensland, but his wife was. :D

I wonder if the following quote refers to this family.....
"The first selector at Flaxton was Joseph Dixon, from Buderim, who selected 800 acres, extending from the edge of Mapleton to what became known as Skene's Hill at Flaxton, Here he planted bananas and, in 1892, citrus trees."

Another snippet about Joseph Chapman Dixon and his wife Elizabeth Alice......they're both buried in the Flaxton cemetery. Their gravestones are evidently very hard to read. E. Alice died in 1927.

Dee - you are fabulous. You have gone out of your way to be so helpful and I am so very appreciative of all your efforts. This site has the greatest researchers and I strongly recommend it to all. I could not have got as far as I have in my genealogical research without you. I live in the United States and research in other parts of the world can sometimes be rather difficult. Onwards and upwards as they say!

Karen, I'm only to pleased to have been of help, as is scrappyshaz, I'm sure. I've had wonderful help from folks in the USA with some of my family queries.
Please just ask if there is anything specific in the thread that you'd like we Australian Rootschatters to try to follow up. I'm sure someone will if they can. :D :D :D
