When asking for help on any board you need to give all the relevant information that you have. If you already knew that his father was George, then tell us that to start with. Makes it so much easier for people who are trying to help you

You can find both families on the 1881 census, both in Langford, free on www.familysearch.org

Thank you David, you posted exactly what I wanted to say, it saves people a lot of time and effort when all information is posted and also being polite & appreciative when people try to help is also another aspect.

Reggiesgirl, I hope you find the info you want.

I apologize Sharon, I did not by any means intend to ignore you.  I haven't been on Roots Chat in a long time and guess I have forgotten to include what I do have, even if it is a name.  Please accept my apology.  I'll get back into the swing of things.

Thanks Reggiesgirl,

It just makes things easier when we have all the info you have so as not to waste time looking for info that you already have.

The pilot family search site has a couple of marriages in Bedfordshire for that time period that may be of interest to you, check it out.

back to 1861 in Langford; George Stimson (senior) born 1826 is with wife Mary b 1829, plus children Jane, George (1853), Emila & Henry

back to 1851 in Langford, George Stimson born 1826 & wife Mary Ann & daughter Jane. Next door is widower Mary Stimson 1785 & her widower son Bennett Stimson 1820.

I reckon George & this Bennet are sons of a previous Bennet Stimsom, A George son of Bennett, married a Mary Smith at Langford in Sept 1846.

This info if also free on the IGI from the Family Search site. While the info is free its usage & interpretation needs a bit of analysis.

cheers John

Thank you John.  Perhaps you can appreciate why that site leaves me clueless sometimes.  I will work your info into my history.  My sister just passed away a week ago, so my family history has become especially important to me facing more surgery this coming Monday (on my back).  I appreciate all of you and all the help you have given me, in the past as well.

I am also researching the Stimsons of Langford. Can I just check that P in the spelling. Is that documented or something that had crept into this thread?

Hello Floripano & welcome to RootsChat.

As per the Beds FHS Surname Index CD there are 8 STIMPSON names & 37 STIMSON names for baptisms, marriages & burials at Langford. If you've not done so already suggest you get the Langford registers on CD from Beds FHS, details are on their website.

The 1871 marriage at Langford is recorded as George STIMPSON while the 1846 marriage of his father was as George STIMSON in both the parish registers & the GRO.

Cheers John

Ann Smith was born circa 1820 at Bedfordshire, England.  She married Moss Stimson, son of Bennet Stimson and Mary Wale, on 24 Dec 1839 at Langford, Bedfordshire, England.  As of 24 Dec 1839, her married name was Stimson.  She was widowed on 19 Mar 1851 by the death of her first husband Moss Stimson.  As of 30 Mar 1851, she was also known as Ann Stimpson according to the Census for Langford (A widow living with her father).  She married George Stanford on 20 Feb 1855 at Langford, Bedfordshire, England.  As of 20 Feb 1855, her married name was Stanford.  She was widowed circa Feb 1861 by the death of her second husband George Stanford.  She married Matthew Gilbey on 17 Oct 1861 at Langford, Bedfordshire, England.  As of 17 Oct 1861, her married name was Gilbey.  She was widowed circa Aug 1887 by the death of her third husband Matthew Gilbey.  As of circa May 1901, she was also known as Ann Gilby according to the Registration of her Death.  She died circa May 1901 at Biggleswade Registration District, Bedfordshire, England.

I hope that is of interest! It was done for me by a friend - I am only passing it on.

Best wishes

Andrew
