My apologies if anyone else has posted this...
I've recently obtained a copy of the above MI.
I'd be happy to check it for you. Might take a few days to get back to you but I WILL respond.
It's very comprehensive but I know it is incomplete - a friend found one of 'mine' in Cumbernauld that is not recorded.
It covers:
Alexandria
Arrocher
Bonhill
Cardross
Cumbernauld
Dumbarton
Faslane
Gartshore Quaker
Helensburgh
Kilmahew(Cardross)
Kilmarnock (NOT AYRSHIRE)
Kirkintilloch - Auld Isle/cemetery/St Mary's/Orchard
Luss
New Kilpatrick
Old Kilpatrick
Renton
Rhu
Rosneath
Tarbet
Vale of Leven
-
I was wondering if you could have a look to see if there are any McAdams in Bonhill or Kilmaronock?
Thanks for offering to do this.
Kind regards,
Caroline
-
Nothing in Bonhill.
1 entry in Kilmaronock Churchyard:
Page 89 number 50
I can send map of churchyard if you wish to visit (PM email address)
The entry in the mi book is as follows:
"(FS behind 57) WM 1714; Jas McAdam in Ardoch 11.1.1752 70: Walter M. in Portnellan 6.2.1799 69"
Book is quite well indexed so not difficult to locate surnames if you want me to look at other sites in Dunbartonshire.

Might take me 10 minutes longer!
Whiskey involved! ::)
Just spent a few minutes looking for my pencil - it was in my mouth!
Silly I know, but it took me longer to realise 'cos I couldn't find my spectacles - they were on ma head.
Only part of this is true. I'll tell you which part once I've filled my glass, assuming I can find it.
-
Hi jette,
Sorry - no Lamond in Bonhill.
There is 1 Lamont.... (page 14 , number 18)
"John Lamont in Tamidow, w Jean Anderson 30 05 1809 45"
Any interest?
Dave
-

Pity it didn't help.

Hello, I'm sorry to bother you with my problems because I'm sure you have hundreds of your own.
I have my ancestor in the 1841 census with my gt gt grandfather living in James Street, Row Dunbartonshire.
His wife Sarah I'm sure is RC because I found the children including my gt grandfather living with the Finnigan family b. Ireland in the 1951 census Renfrewshire and in England later Alexander b 1846 married in a RC church.
There's a family rumour that Alexander MacMillan and his wife born in Ireland died in a train accident. The children Frances, Ann and Alexander were turned out of their home and walked to England. Alexander left Scotland after the 1861 census and turned up in the 1971 census in England living with his older sister Annie.
Was there a train accident? Where did Alexander and hid wife Sarah go to between Alexander's birth 1846/7 and 1851?
-
Dave,
Is there any way you could look up the Carrick and Bitcon Family's in the Dumbarton, Cumbernauld and Alexandria MI's.
Thank You
Lynn

Hi folks,
I'm mid renovation of a couple of my rooms just now and the book is out of my reach.
I've marked the recent messages as 'unread' and will check the MI as soon as I'm able.
Probably at the weekend.

Hello Dave: I would like to add my own Dunbartonshire names: James Wallace married 1822 to Agnes ( Annie) Stevenson. Both are marked ( on census) as being born in Old Kilpatrick . James died before 1841, as Agnes is listed on Glasgow 1841 census as a widow. I am from his son James born Dunbartonshire, Old Kilpatrick, 1828. Thank you for all your work. If it proves too much trouble no problem. Donna
-
To icini and all that have posted before....
absolutely no problem for me to check as long as you dont mind waiting a short while. My house still in a bit of disorder but should be able to get to the book again in 2 weeks, if not before. I know exactly where it is but unless you all fancy coming to my house with paint brushes and sandpaper, you'll need to bear with me. :P ;D

Hi Dave, adding to your list I'm afraid, hope you don't mind.
I'm looking for Youngs in Cumbernauld, particularly Robert and Janet born about 1790 and their children; Ann, Robert, Janet, James and William.
If the children died young then I can stop wasting time trying to find them.
Thanks
Hilary
-
No problem.
I'm nearly at the stage I'll be able to access my books again so hope to reply to everyone soon.
Sorry for delay.

Hi Dave can I join the queue please.
I am looking for McAulay in Kilmaronock and Bonhill
And Munn in Old Kilpatrick (think I have all my Munn's, but you may find one I didn't know about)
Thank you.
-
May I too please join the queue?
William Bryson, stone mason, is in the 1841 census, aged 70, with his wife Margaret Findlay and some of their seven children, but he isn't in the 1851 and Margaret is listed as a widow. Margaret died in Falkirk in 1864 and I have marriage and death information for all seven children. Is it possible that your book might record William's date of death?
Thank you in anticipation.
-
Hi
If you have time could you possibly check for any Kane in New/Old Kilpatrick please.
Many thanks in advance.
-
I'm so embarrassed that I haven't replied to anyone for such a long time.
My apologies.
I'm digging out the book this evening cos it's not too far under the pile of rubble I have.
Over the next 48 hours, I promise I'll look for all of the names.
Dave

Sorry to trouble you, Dave.
I have just posted a thread today re Alexandria Old Churchyard lookup and have now just discovered your offer of MI`s for the region.
I am looking for anything on a Duncan McIntyre b 1760 or 1765 in Rhu, or his wife Katrine McIntyre ms Buchanan.
Their son Duncan d 1870 and his wife Helen d 1877 were buried in the family grave 53-81 on the north side of Alexandria Old Churchyard and was wondering if the parents were in the family grave.
Any help would be much appreciated as I now live south of the border in a foreign land.
Cheers! Jim.

Hi
Wondering if you can help. I am trying to get info on marriage of Rachel Mckechnie to Thomas Supple around 1915 to 1920, marriage took place somewhere in Scotland.
Rachel was born in Craighton New Kilpatrick i think around 1893, daughter of Archibald and Margaret McKechnie, this all i have to go on.
Thanks
JK.

I'd appreciate your help!
I have Walter Gay (1805-1885) from Bonhill married to Flora Glen (1805-1843) from Alexandria.
It is possible that Flora's parents were Walter Glen and Jean Allen.
Walter's parents were Walter Gay (b. c. 1778) at Bonhill; and Catherine McFarlane (b. c. 1777). I it possible that Walter's parents were Walter Gay (b. c. 1760 in Cardross and Janet ?.
Walter (1805-1885) and Flora had children:
Walter Gay (1832-1873) married Isabella Ross (b. 1834)
John Gay, b. 1833
James Gay (b. 1837-1881) married Emma Savage (1841-1918). Both died in Australia.
Alexander Gay, b. 1841.
Any information about any of these people, and their ancestors and descendants, would be greatly appreciated.

If you get a moment, could you tell me where I can buy a copy? It sounds like a must-have.

There are probably other sources, but have a look here:

Scroll down to Monumental Inscriptions (The Scottish Genealogical Society, Edinburgh)

Thank you, Anne. I've placed an order.

::)
My sincere apologies folks.
I've never got around to doing all these look-ups.
At one point, I thought I'd found the book amongst the shambles that is my flat - renovations STILL continue.
It was not the correct book.
Anyway, following a PM I received earlier today, I went hunting and have now found the correct book.
Bad news... I don't have the time or inclination at the moment to look through it for all the requests on the thread.
Good news.... first come, first served..... If someone is willing to take on my promise of look-ups, I'll send the book to them free of charge.
Any takers?
My apologies for not keeping to my original offer which I made in good faith. Circumstances changed for me, plus the upheaval............
Dave
-
Dave - sent you a PM.
Anne
-
My excuse.........
and this is only one room of the entire flat......
It's progressed quite a bit but the entire flat has been undergoing this sort of major work and I'm doing most of it myself.
-
just saw your note Mrs A. Will go read PM now. xxxx
-
Anne has kindly volunteered to finish what I started. The book is hers.
Very pleased cos not only will the job be done, it gives me an excuse to meet up with a long lost pal (saves me the postage but will no doubt cost me a meal! :D)
-
Love your floor Dave (I hope you're keeping it) - though it looks like it's getting a bit of a battering at the moment. ;)
-
Oooooo! A free meal AND a free book?
Once I get Dave's MI Book, I'll go through this thread from the beginning and hopefully be able to trace some of the families/individuals searched for.
Anne ;D
-
It's surviving not too badly Ruskie. 3 tons of rubble from that fireplace alone! Carried down stairs by yours truly. I'm a 4th floor flat! Knackered my legs more than the floor.
It progresses and despite the work, the floor has survived. Once I've finished other work in the flat, I'll give it a light sand and a varnish and it'll be as good as old.
Don't be too shocked by the red. It's actually really warm and not as harsh as it looks in these pics. It's a big room, with a LOT of white woodwork and the big bay. Once I get my paintings back on the wall, I reckon it'll look good.
Dave
And thanks Anne. I, and I'm sure everyone else on the thread appreciate it. The free meal is at my house - bring a paint brush! :D
-
The red with the white trim looks really nice Dave. You have very good taste.
To get back on track, I might have some people for you to look up in Dunbarton too Anne.(lucky you ;)) I will see if I can find any gaps in my brother in law's tree, as some of his family hail from that area. ;)
-
Hi dave all the best with your renovations
We are doing a similar thing to our cottage
Nightmare !

Bonhill has an Alexander McAdam in memory of his daughter Jean who died 1856.
John Mac
-
Any thing on McCallums thanks
-
PLEASE IGNORE THIS AS I HAVE JUST NOTICED THAT IT IS PRE 1855 . DEFINATELY NEED MY EYES TESTED !
Thanks for your kind offer . On the list for Old Kilpatrick , is it only the churchyard in Old Kilpatrick itself or does it include Clydebank , which comes under the Old Kilpatrick registration district ?
Do you have any details for the following , all children of Gilbert Hay Miller & Delina McAllister ? Possibly buried at Old Kilpatrick .
Alexander b. abt 1872
Grace b. abt 1874
Annie b abt 1878
Jeannie b abt 1885
Lizzie b abt 1886
Kate b abt 1888
Delina McAllister b 1889 , d 1983
Gilbert b abt 1892
Augustus b abt 1894 (female)
William b abt 1899
Sorry I have no dates of death for the majority of them . I do not know if they died young or lived to a ripe old age .
If you can find some details on any of them that will be a big help .
Many thanks , Graham .

Hi!!!
Long time right enough!

Hope you and yours are all well.

Hi Anne,
We are all good thanks, living in sunny Devon now which is great but I do miss the Archives in London.
I don't think I'll bother Dave, but thanks anyway Anne.

I'm not too sure that I am doing this right(I'm very new!) I would appreciate if anything can be found for Jean(nee forsyth) Bilslane and hubby James Bilslane she was born in Aug 1731 Dunbarton. Thanks in advance.... Maza
-
Hi
Could you see if there is an Andrew Mitchell between 1839 and 1855. He was living at Condorrat so I assume he would have been buried in Cumbernauld.
-
I'm sorry to say that Anne passed away last April.
I no longer have a copy of the MIs for the area.
-
Hi Daval57,
We are very sorry to hear of Annes passing, we will all miss her and her shedding tree she was very kind to lot of our members. I am now locking this thread and I have stopped all further emails going out.
Kind Regards
Sarah
