Hi-trish18,
We have her birth cert also her wedding cert, it seemd strange we heard she was in birkenhead, because when the family came back from canada they lived down south. will have to take a trip to registry office and get cert for her .
Thanks Jim.
-
Jim,
I wonder what the reason was for her ending her days in Birkenhead?
Hope you find out the story behind it.
Regards
Trish

Hi Jim
If Mary was in a nursing home in Birkenhead run by nuns then a possibility would be The Little Sisters of the Poor Home which was in Parkfield Avenue (between Claughton Road and Conway Street if you're looking at a map).A home for the elderly and infirm.
It was a big old house but was demolished some years ago. I do remember it as I went to visit my great great aunt who was being looked after there.
When I was young we were taken there from school at Christmas time to sing carols to the residents.
I remember how nice it was inside - kept beautifully and the residents were well cared for by the nuns. There was also a nice garden.
I can't think of another nursing home in Birkenhead run by nuns - maybe someone else can.
If Mary is buried in Birkenhead then the cemetery could be Landican or Flaybrick.

Hi-Neptune,
i thought of nazareth house in manor road, opposite St Anselams school, didn't think of the little sisters of the poor, if i remember you could see it from exmouth st,

Hi again
Oh yes - that could be another possibility Jim - that home is still there.
I suppose the death cert or burial record would give the address.
I don't think the burial records held at the main library or Wirral Archives go up to 1978 but I'm not sure.

hi-neptune,
the thing is her brother died 1950 and his wife died 1958, non of the children knew she was up here, it was her granson in canada that gave us the idea, he seemed to think she was in a home run by nuns in birkenhead, so it has come as a surprise .

Hi Jim,
Just had a quick look on passenger lists from Canada to UK. Do you have any idea when she may have come back to the UK?

Trish
-
hi-Trish18,
The family cosisting of Felix hill his wife mary agnes, son felix jnr, son norman and daughter joan came back to england 10th sep 1938,
Felix jnr his wife violet and son james went back to canada 1953.
Felix snr died 10/11/1942 down south, joan died 1940 and norman moved to new zealand,so that left mary agnes hill on her own here.

Jim,
Is it likely she would have travelled to Montreal to visit her son?

Trish

Hi-trish18,
Nobody seems to know what happened.

This may be a perfectly useless piece of information but.....
There is a Mary A Hill, aged 65, housewife, who returned from Montreal, Quebec, into Liverpool on 2nd November 1954. No other passengers with the name of Hill.
The ship was the Empress of Australia, shipping line was Canadian Pacific.
It lists the permanent place of residence as England and the proposed permanent address as 53, Mason Avenue, Bidston, Birkenhead.
I know it's a long shot but any port in a storm (pardon the pun!)
Could possibly be that at the age of 65 (if it was her) she may have thought that she would not get many more opportunities to visit her son???

Trish

hi-trish18,
That is the address of my wifes mother who died 1958,so she must have gone back to canada with her son.
jim.

hi-trish18,
sorry didn't finish off last message, she must have come back to see her sister-in-law, my wifes mum who was very ill at the time.
jim.
-
Well that's a coincidence. I'll be happy to have a good look at the passenger lists, to see if I can find anything for a later date which may give another address, if you want?
By the way Jim, you said you had her birth certificate so is the birth date of 10th May 1889 (which was linked to the death record index) correct?
Regards
Trish

hi-trish18,
yes thats her date of birth, just showing the wife your last message and she vagually remembers mary agnes coming to their house and the bed collapsing on her, the wife was about 8 or 9 then she and her brothers were in bulk laughing at her.
jim.
Don't think she would have gone back to canada, by the sounds of it she didn't like the place.
Her grandson (*) lives at Niagara falls.
jim.
p.s. thanks for all your help.
