Title: *complete" Potton and Sandy graves
Post by: Timetraveller77 on Friday 29 October 10 07:54 BST (UK)
Howdy,
I have done extensive research on my Potton and Sandy ancestry, and now would like to try and find any grave information I can for my DENNIS, PEACOCK and BRAYBROOK families from the early 1800's onwards.

I notice Potton Library has microfiche burial records, but does any one know if someone overseas can purchase a CDrom of Potton cemetery records from somewhere??

Cheers,
Janine

Hello Janine

Potton is one of the parishes that are on CDs produced by the Beds Family History Society

Check them out..

http://www.bfhs.org.uk/

Also you could look at NAOMI to see if any of yours are listed.

Hello Janine,The local library's do not have CD` for this information nor does the main Bedford Library as John said you can get CD`s from the Beds,. Family History Society,
but if you can supply a defined time scale and names required plus known areas of burial i.e parishes the records office will do a check at no cost,so if you would like me to check on your behalf i would put the information on a post,if you feel you need further information you can then go for the Cd's.
             With regards Diarmuid.

Burials in Beds up to c1851 can be found on the NBI. See http://www.ffhs.org.uk/projects/nbi/nbi-overview.php

Sandy burials up to 1812 can be found on FreeReg at http://www.freereg.org.uk/search/index.htm

There was a Sandy - Braybrook thread a couple of weeks ago at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,321278.0.html

The Beds FHS have recently published transcripts of the MIs of Sandy, St Swithun as surveyed in 1907-1916.

The only name of yours that they found are as follows....

George Braybrook who departed this life May 29th 1844 aged 92 years.

John Braybrooks who departed this life January 13th 1861 aged 74 years.
Also of Ann Braybrooks, wife of the above, who departed this life August 6th 1861 aged 73 years.

Beds FHS have hard copy of MIs of Potton, but I don't have them to hand. I will check them at next Friday's meeting.

Regards John

Hello All,
thanks so much for your replies.  I will follow up with the Bedfordshire Family History Society regarding the CD, but don't you need to be a member of those Society's to order CDroms???

I had a quick glance at the National Memorial Inscription website, thanks.  Can't seem to spot my lot (except a possible match for one). But I will keep looking in more detail. Cheers.

To Diarmuid,
thank you very much for the offer to check any names for me, and then post them online. I should tell you I have a long list I want checked so it would be rather unfair to expect you to do all the leg work for me.  I am happy to buy a CDrom in the hopes it has even a sprinkling of my ancestors and their families listed.

Lastly, I checked out that other thread for Braybrooks in Sandy.....it seems it was started two years ago, but even so, it looks like that person is a relative! I am a descendant of James BRAYBROOK(S) and Elizabeth BASS - so their ancestor Matilda BRAYBROOK b. 1841 Sandy, is a sister to my GGG grandmother Theresa BRAYBROOK b. 1828 Little Staughton, Hunts.

I will add a message to that thread and see if we can help each other out with any gaps.

Thanks again everyone. Much obliged.
Regards,
Janine

Hello Janine,   I looked at the hard copy of the MIs of Potton St Mary's & Potton cemetery as recorded by Beds FHS (& these are on the parish records CD - available for just 20 Great British Pounds - & no you don't have to be a member to buy one) and there are a number of Dennis names plus a fewer number of Peacock & Braybrook names; I cannot guarantee they're the ones you're after - but you'll have to take the chance.

Regards John

Hello John,
thanks SO much for checking that CDrom for me. That was very kind of you. OK, so it sounds like I have to take a risk. But its good to know a bit more about what's on the CD now, and that I don't have to be a member to purchase it.

Diarmuid very kindly looked up about 12 of my direct Potton ancestors at the library for me, so I have the main ones - you guys have been so generous!

I am well on my way to rounding off my Potton research thanks to you both, and I am forever grateful.

Kind regards,
Janine
