Rootschat isn't a forum for tracing living people but could both of these people now be deceased?

Here's a well-known Piaras Beaslai who's listed as "cousin of Lily Merin (or Mernin), one of Michael Collins' moles in Dublin Castle, who passed much useful information to Collins, and pointed out undercover targets in the street."-

Put 'lily mernin' into Google and see more details such as-

Is there a reason you've started this thread on the Waterford board rather than Dublin or another one?

The 1901 and 1911 census are both online and you can search for your family there to star with- birth counties are listed which might help you find them in civil registration index, etc. See  Introduction to Irish Records topic-

I am looking for more information on my family. I believe the Mernin family has routes in Waterford. I know my great Aunt...Lily Mernin...had a sister (my grandmother) whose name was Mary Josephine Mernin. My father, John (Sean) Maguire was told she died giving birth to him, but we are not sure if this is true. I would be appreciative of any information, or assistance, I am in Australia

Duplicate requests for the same information on more that one board causes needless confusion and work for those trying to help so I've merged both your threads and put the newly merged one in Ireland-General.

Your father's date and place of birth should give clues as to where to look for the death of his mother Mary Josephine Mernin whom I assume was married to a Maguire. You can  search the Irish civil registration index at the LDS online site for a marriage and death. Also there are quite a number of Mernins registered in the index in Waterford.

Was googling Mernin and came across this blog with Mernin contributors. You may find it helpful to link up with other family members.

Good luck in your search

Just to update, after finding Piaras Beaslai's collection in the National Library of Ireland and communicating with the 2 historians who worked on his diaries, it turns out that Piaras is my grandfather and Lily Mernin is my grandmother. My father has finally learnt the truth about his parents...thankyou to all who helped!

Can you see a little green scroll under their user name? if yes, click on it, write message in box then send. If not, make one more post here and it should work.

On site www.ainm.ie  (http://www.ainm.ie/Bio.aspx?ID=4) regarding Piarse Béaslaí I found the following, translated from Irish . She (Lili Mernin had a son in London 1922 and Pádraig ó Siadhail is in no doubt but tha Piaras was the fatherr.  He helped her financially.  Piarse knew that he was the father. His son did not meet him until 1944 but his son Seán Maguire never knew that Piarse was his father.
Pádraig ó Siadhail  is author of book on Piaras -  An Béaslaíoch: Beatha agus Saothar Phiarais Béaslaí (1881-1865), 2007  (Life and Works)

Portrait of the pair from National Library of Ireland in this article:
"Elizabeth Mernin: 'The Little Gentleman' in Dublin Castle"
https://www.rte.ie/history/2020/0714/1153296-dictionary-of-irish-national-biography-elizabeth-lily-mernin
There's a colourised version on a FB site "Irish Rebels Restored".
Another article refers to Lily as Michael Collins' "Mata Hari".

Lily's birth registration (as Elizabeth Edith, Dublin 1887, 6 months after her birth) is transcribed on Irish Genealogy.ie as MERRIN.
